While I agree directionally with your stance, the argument is that businesses collude against workers (eg Apple/Google case) so workers might as well collude against businesses.

I always joke that we already have ‘AI-like’ entities: corporations are algorithms that ravage everything in their way to profit. We have a lot of cross-disciplinary work to do to keep these paper clip optimizers in check.

Here's how I've dealt with procrastination, in case anyone wants to try these ideas out: 1. Clarity: Knowing steps/milestones/end goal helps scope/know what needs to be done for something to be 'finished'.

tl;dr at the end of the article: 1. People are driven to imitate others, but hate to admit it 2. Imitation is the basis of most businesses, but it's always disguised because customers are ashamed of their mimetic desires. 3. We need to

This talk [1] made me conclude something along these lines. You need side-effects to make anything useful, just make sure they're segregated in a specific place in your program. This makes it easier to make most of the program pure and

This is amazing content marketing. Developers are an obvious target niche for such a product. Exposing internals of the software in a way HNers enjoy sounds like a great idea, would love to see if it worked as a traction experiment.

I tried Elm in ~2018 and it was delightful. Ended up checking it out bc it was mentioned as 'prior art' in Redux's website. Didn't end up adopting bc everyone around me thought I was crazy to use something so niche. It&#

I learned a trick from Clojure that helps with this (they call them rich comments). You never type into the REPL but include comment sections across your programs where you write code as it's intended to be used/executed and then

Readability is one of Ruby's strengths. Most custom DSLs I've encountered are easy to understand. Arguably meta programing makes it harder but the language allows you to strike the balance that suits you.

Could we use this to sift through trash and separate useful/reusable materials? Cooking sounds more complex, this could be awesome for recycling.

In your experience, how could these local LLMs become snappier than using streamed API calls? How far are they if not? How soon do you guess they’ll get there? I understand the motivation includes factors other than performance, I’m just cu

I think having to mention the other ecosystems shows some aspect of the problem. Maybe unrelated (but seemed like a symptom): In my case putting together a web framework was not trivial, as there was no equivalent to Django or Rails. Instea

I think you just get used to it. Some things that can help: 1. Setup auto linting so everything auto indents and is uniform 2. Use something like paredit that helps you edit S-expressions ( https://calva.io/paredit/ )
