A Prometheus contributor also fuzzed our query language parser using go-fuzz and amongst other things discovered a really interesting Unicode-related parsing bug: https://twitter.com/PrometheusIO/status/62618706835

If you don't need to keep data forever, but only several weeks or months, and you only need numeric time series data and not raw event logs, Prometheus ( http://prometheus.io/ ) is your friend. Since it's optimized

LevelDB is only used for indexes to look up series files by sets of dimensions, not for time-based lookups. We just need to find the right time series that are relevant for your query. As a simple example, we have one LevelDB index which ha

Also, Prometheus solves the batching problem that the article mentions by keeping chunks of recent data for each time series in RAM and only appending those chunks to their series files (of which there can be millions) when they are complet

Ah ok, so some obvious things left to optimize then :) Thanks for the explanations! As far as I know, none of the Prometheus core developers will be at Monitorama this year. But we'll be at SRECon Dublin, DevOpsCon Berlin, GopherCon De

Hi, Prometheus[0] author here. Thanks for the interesting article! Since I was curious how this compares to Prometheus's internal storage for writes, I whipped up some (disclaimer: very naive and ad-hoc!) benchmarks[1] to get a rough f

Not sure if this is what you're comparing it to, but be aware that Prometheus' approach is fundamentally different from StatsD-like approaches where you send every event or a subsampling thereof to a monitoring server. Prometheus

Hey Paul, this is exciting news! So perhaps InfluxDB could work well as a Prometheus long-term storage backend after all. It would be so much nicer than having to run OpenTSDB based on Hadoop/HBase. It might be a while until I find the

Great. Yeah, adding unit tests for alerts is something that we still need to add the capability for. But at least you can always already manually graph your alert expressions and see how they would have evaluated over time. Interesting work
