I've debated doing this a few times, but the stuff I haven't released is usually such a mess of undocumented code that's been rewritten a few million times I'd be afraid it would make me look bad. Congrats for having the discipline to keep

How do you sell? I'm working on my first book now covering Tornado. At the moment I've been considering launching the book as a website then selling ebook copies of it as well. I'm curious to know how others market their material.

Well they do show government spending on IT in the graphic on the page. Also, a lot of people start civic projects for the sake of the positive feelings they get for providing civic responsibility. Kind of like why a lot of people work for

I starred the article for later reading on google Reader as it looks interesting. I had to do this instead of reading it now because whatever javascript is being used for paging makes it unreadable on my android phone. Text won't scroll, an

Interesting. Thanks for the reply and breaking it down the way you did. That provides some serious food for thought. Looking forward to your next post on the rationales for the other data stores.

From the beginning I've understood mongodb to be built with it's approach for scaling, performance, redundancy and backup to be horizontal scaling. They recently added journaling for single server durability, but before that replication was

Thank you for the feedback. I think I'll also have to see about making it easier for people to get feedback to me as well. Guess I'm going from personal hobby to trying to at least support users best I can.

Thank you for the advice and the link. If you don't mind can you tell me what browser you viewed the page and resolution? I don't have the problem of the text being larger than the screen but I also tend to use high resolution screens and m

How much of a site's personality would you consider is design, vs content and UX? I'm considering tweaking the over all colors and such for unscatter.com and chatfor.us (when I move chatfor.us to bootstrap) in order to differentiate them. I

I've recently pushed out the first round of the redesign for the site. I used Twitter Bootstrap 2 and made a focus on trying to simplify the user interface, hopefully making it a bit more intuitive. I also moved away from using YUI and am l

Maybe I should get back to working on unscatter.com again. Built using primarily Blekko's api's but it's falling apart as I work on other projects. Not because "hey PG says I can get VC for this" but rather it's been bugging me that it's be

Just to be a little more clear. Professionally I'm a sysadmin not a developer. So generally I spend my time supporting at least several different projects a day while also getting all the KLO done. At my place of work some projects have dif

I've tried several myself, mainly time trackers though. I came to the realization that time tracking wasn't as useful for me because I never remember to stop the clock. Especially since my job generally has be doing multiple things at once.

Trello looks interesting for my side projects. Going to check it out. Not sure it's a good fit for my professional needs yet. However, not ruling it out until I've spent some time with it, thanks.

I will second this. I originally deployed chatfor.us with tornadio and then moved to sockjs-tornado and found both extremely easy to implement. I use ha proxy for that app. Unscatter.com doesn't use web sockets and I use nginx as the proxy

I use mongodb with bit.ly's asyncmongo. I honestly was a bit frustrated with it from a development standpoint because of all the callbacks. Just felt like spaghetti code. Since I have started applying tornado.gen its been pretty effective.

On the flip side a similar script to use a similar technique in .profile to strip out all SSH lines in your history would be a good security measure. That account gets compromised and you wouldn't have a road map of other hosts to connect t
