I think what I'd do is just build a light and outlet onto the bottom of a solar panel; cut the proper holes, drop solar panel onto roof, now there is a light bulb and outlet in your ceiling. But I have no idea if this is practical; is

I think we DO want to interrupt the flow of traffic. Cars should be slowed down in areas where a lot of people want to cross the street. Want to go fast? Do what they do; ditch the car and walk!

I had no idea! As it turns out, the reason that "curl ..." doesn't work is because it pops up a window below all of my other windows saying that certificate revocation information is unavailable, and would I like to proceed.

Did they open a bug against Chrome with the image file? I feel like any crash on user-provided data is a big deal, always a correctness problem, but potentially a security problem. "We deleted the image so the problem is fixed for us

I find the built-in commands rough. "curl https://jrock.us " to see if my website is up used to involve opening Internet Explorer to accept some sort of agreement. Now it just flashes the terminal, moves the cursor to

I look at it like finding a lost treasure or something like that. The government expedition with a 1 trillion dollar budget might find it first... or it might be in some guy's attic and his kid came over and happened to notice it. Sp

Yeah, I think this was "700 out of 730 employees signed a letter saying they'd quit, over a holiday weekend". OpenAI with no employees is not worth a whole lot.

I think a lot of progress in the field of AI comes from random breakthroughs rather than evolution of existing ideas. For that reason, I think AGI will probably be another random breakthrough, and not just an LLM with more parameters. Goo

I remember a lot of noise when Loongson added support for their CPUs to Go. Go already had MIPS64, so if they had to do porting work, it might not be just a MIPS clone. I haven't looked at either architecture in detail for a long tim

Locking sessions to a single ASN is probably a good idea. I always worry about the "insider threats" where your coworker sitting next to you grabs your cookie out of the Chrome inspector while you're in the bathroom, and thi

One of my coworkers really likes Miller: https://github.com/johnkerl/miller The idea is that you get awk/grep like commands for operating on structured data.

I don't have a savings account but buy CDs on a regular basis. For the next two years, I have something between 5% and 6% maturing every 3 months. Apple Card Savings is 4.15%. So you can definitely do better than the Apple Card, but

I think this is the entire idea aimed at curbing inflation, right? If the government can't borrow money, they can't spend money. If they can't spend money, suppliers won't invest in upgrading their factories (or hiring

I assume this is Alamo Draft House. You can definitely go to this movie theater and not buy any food and not tip anyone. The gimmick is that you can order from your seat and the food you want is brought to you during the movie. After the

The opposite is also interesting. Think about all the drugs that work in rats but not humans. If you have pet rats, they're probably invincible! (More likely is that there is no money in treating pet rats, so actually there aren

"On time" is a metric that is focused on heavily, but to me it's meaningless. The LIRR is "on time" via schedule padding; a 50 mile trip to Ronkonkoma takes 80 minutes on the fastest express train. With line speed
