Right? Kinda weird; I wonder what tiny pie it is that they think they're fighting over, and what makes any of these individual projects think that they're powerful enough over the others (not saying they might not be)

Good. While I don't condone anything illegal, influential code like this is nearly always better made public.

I agree; and whatever you think that is good can possibly be used against you. This is why I think ATProto is possibly dangerous, it makes Big Brother's job easier, as opposed to how ActivityPub does it.

Whooo those are some doublespeak phrases if I've ever heard them. Credible exit? What is that supposed to mean?

This is the best question, because my gut is that "feature" that it touts over AP is much more a dangerous bug. This is "take it with you." What "take it with you" does in the ATProto way shores up and makes mo

This is a great examination, and I think reminds me of why I'm not so panicky about AI art -- there was pretty much the same kind of panic around the invention of photography. It will change, but craft and "look what I did" w

Weirdly, I also agree with this. Which is today, I think we're past the point of "One social media to rule them all." There's room for multiples, all serving important purposes. Maybe an ideal LinkedIn (work stuff), a

"Real" fair use is perhaps one of the most nebulous legal concepts possible. I haven't dived deep into software, but a cursory look at how it "works (I use that term as loosely as possible)" in music with sampling a

No, but as I've said below, this isn't about what will actually strongly happen, but what I think people think. I could be wrong here.

One thing goes through my mind on this; why the hell is this so hard for people to just pick individually? We could have built the web and apps differently to just more-or-less work the same as most ebook readers. PICK WHAT YOU LIKE.

Sure. I trust people follow this to its logical end, which is how bad our mental model of "work" is. The more I think about it, this may get to the heart of all of our (bad) economic theory. Which is that, in a simple survival sen

Yeah, I'm a long time user/disciple of https://zim-wiki.org ; it was basically Obsidian but 15-20 years early. To do some of the things that are now trivially easy with Obsidian I learned scripting and such, so I'

"Who is forced to use it" is an extremely dated argument strategy that has absolutely no place whatsoever in modern computing. Linux is far too ubiquitous for such a notion to be taken seriously. It's not far from "who

Feels like some unfair downvotes, so I'll ask again. In what other countries could one publicly shame the authorities this severely? I think that's what was meant here. And yes, it's great .
