No, the article is just sensationalist. Many form of serious content creation can never have enough cores, bandwidth or RAM or GPU, and certainly never enough screen real-estate. Sure, each individual niche might be a one-percenter, but the

I don't think you necessarily need Li-ion for that - in my experience lead acid works well enough in the domestic case, is a lot cheaper and probably safer (although hydrogen venting is perhaps an issue). I built a little mixed DC (lighting

No, I expect they'd need to be specially designed for it, with a number of compromises (gas venting/replenishment) along the way. Battery technologies tend to have a limiting internal resistance that determines the maximum discharge rate, a

What? 10 years until battery technology has advanced to the point of parity? Gasoline has an energy density of 132 MJ/US gal, or say 1500 MJ on a full small tank. Modern engines hit 30% thermal efficiency, but then there are drive train los

And in fact, here is another illustration of just how hard it is to replace conventional energy storage systems with electricity. High pressure steam stores an enormous amount of energy. EMALs effectively uses 4 flywheels as rotational ener

Encryption that isn't completely useless. Recovery records. Huge file support. Better compression in specialised cases (x86 binary code, multimedia). A nicer GUI - 7zip is a clunky, fugly thing and WinZip... urgh. Garish as Las Vegas. A rea

No, I've confirmed that a random sample of HTC & Huawei phones around my office are also vulnerable. Nothing specific to TouchWiz. The thing that MIGHT be specific to Samsung is the actual remote wipe code, but relying on that is simply

I run my own mail server from colocation. I have so far refused to provide webmail because I can't find an implementation that isn't a constant stream of security holes, in exactly the way that Courier / Exim aren't. Any recommendations? I

I wrote a trivial webpage (using the show IMEI USSD * #06#), served from my desktop with Lighttpd. It certainly can be executed via a simple web page using a frameset on both Chrome & Browser, and there's no prompt. Works on a Huawei

Works on a stock Galaxy S2 with Samsung ICS, and a random stock HTC (colleague's phone). Triggers IMEI display via dialer from both Chrome and Browser :(

Yes, this is how it works. I tested a Galaxy S2 and HTC with Chrome and the stock Browser - both spawn the dialler and pass the code which triggers automatically on the terminating '#'.

Not just browser vendors - to do this effectively a lot of companies need to "get" RESTful APIs in a way that they just don't at the moment. For example, think about fat clients that are actually talking HTTP, maybe through an ISP transpare

An experienced web developer, no. A skilled-but-never-built-anything-but-a-toy developer? I'm not so sure. Best practice is rarely sexy. Agile development methodologies over-emphasise YAGNI and do-the-simplest-thing (to the point that I w

One can always use http://routes.tomtom.com/ as a source for comparison. It would also be good if certain journalists and bloggers did this before shooting their mouths off about data quality, but that wouldn't make a compelling headline.

All TomTom devices can send data back - the Live and Work (fleet management) devices have a SIM, the older devices use the docking cradle to the PC. And yes, there is a privacy policy. See http://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/safeguarding-your-data
