Or worse, you google an obscure topic and the top reply is “apple mountain sleep blue chipmunk fart This comment was mass deleted with Redact” and the replies to that are all “thanks that solved my problem”

Flash was an absolute legend. I do wonder if Brood War's long period without balance patches helped or hurt it as an esport. In modern games, it feels like developers "shake up the meta" on purpose, whereas in brood war, it w

I had a lot of fun using Cases Ladder to find matches. I know the game was horribly unbalanced against humans once bloodlust showed up, but I still quit after they "patched" bloodlust years later in Battle.net. Felt sacrilege, lik

That’s why I strongly believe there needs to be term limits on these kinds of contracts. Copyright is supposed to benefit the consumer, after all.

PrimoCache is awesome, highly recommended. I’d only say to make sure your computer is rock stable before installing it, in my limited experience it exponentially increases the risk of filesystem corruption if your computer is unstable.

Interesting to realize that all animals are parasites (or perhaps symbiotes in some rare cases?) when you zoom out and look at the big picture. Almost makes me feel a bit guilty for not being a self-sustaining plant.

Even if you include that crash in the numbers, the safety numbers are still incredible. Something like 10 passenger-light-days per fatality. Quite lumpy though, with the median deaths per year being 0, and the average number of deaths being

The same statistic for trains is a few hundred deaths per "passenger-light-year". Or 0.004 fatalities per 100 million miles. [1] [1] https://www.transit.dot.gov/sites/fta.dot.gov/files/2024-10/.

Almost understating the point if anything. Mars is less habitable than the bottom of the Marina trench. An environment that could kill every person on earth in a millisecond.

Technically when tweeted for the given selective timespan, but no longer true since the crash this year in DC. Still, mind blowing. When fact checking this I learned we went over 2 passenger light years worth of airline travel with no fatal

Indeed. We are all "conscious" in our dreams (well, technically unconscious, but we have phenomenal experiences and qualia). But our dreams, for the most part, are unstable, very inconsistent, and not persistent. Most mornings I w

To me, the absurdity of the idea of p-zombies is why I'm convinced consciousness isn't special to humans and animals. Can complex LLMs have subjective experience? I don't know. But I haven't heard an argument against it

I agree that our system (America’s, specifically) is too slow, but it’s not inherent to democracy, it’s the fact we only have elections every few years, because these rules were written in the 1700s when holding an election / voting in
