I believe deployments should be described as declarative data, not as imperative code. Declarative: can first be tested, verified, dry-run, and implemented in any language. salt (my preferred CM) has yaml data files that can be analyzed and

I think we could all share plenty of stories of abuse and having our volunteer time abused or undervalued... It's very overwhelming to have a large public project that your day job doesn't care about. When I find those rare moment

If macros and ergonomics is your thing, and you don't mind a high cost, I recommend the kinesis advantage. No bling, all function and hardware-programmable, which is very nice to remap keys independent of the OS.

I know only two telnet bbs software systems that use Utf8 rather than classic 8-bit codepages mentioned here. If anyone would like to see art try them out: 1984.ws (mine, Python) and htc.zapto.org (a friends, C++). Haven't tried it yet

I appreciated the nosql-like database model of a "notes" and "views". It inspired the way I managed data for the remainder of my career. I believe the concept of "tags" of flickr or "labels" of gmail

Noah Spurrier did a great job with pexpect, which i helped port to python 3 and add unicode support. I've been in love with pty's in general since the mid 1990's, and naturally found myself maintaining a highly visible python

I think a manager was told to increase the value of the technology stack for a potential acqui-hire. In this case, the CTO may have "sell to Google" in mind.
