Can these be retrieved and used or are they deep enough (hopefully) that retrieval is impractical? Horrible either way. Not just pollution, not just the nasty purpose in the first place... but the waste. Just imagine the good that could hav

If even a little bit of this is true, it is absolutely appalling. People involved in this activity need to be brought to justice. I don't care what the motive for said behavior is.

Oh, I agree 100%. Python is referenced because I personally knew I could do much more compact re-writes in it. Also, I'm not sure, but I believe, had the original hacks not been done in Perl, the authors (and others after them) would h

Don't contract as a contractor to businesses that are programming themselves. Build things for businesses that will be the end user. Most of these types of businesses have less of a notion of how to go about getting tools that will hel

I've had to go through a bunch of "cowboy" Perl scripts at work. Some are a ridiculous 2-3000 lines doing things a decently written Python script could do in a 100 lines or less. (I don't fault the language for this... i

I thought the first ending you had was gold... (Very rough Paraphrase).. It sucks in this business when our knowledge base starts becoming obsolete, and we are sometimes tempted to think of reasons we don't have to learn new things, an

Great summation. Especially the island part. That is exactly what it's like. Living on an island. The surrounding desert is the ocean. Three hours to get anywhere (and it's not much of anywhere when you get there). 8 hours to a re

Part of it might also be that employers may not feel a 62 year old can do what a 32 year old can. (Unmarried at 30 is an unrelated issue.) Are they wrong? Where are 95 years olds going to work? What are the going to be capable of doing? Ube
