Kind of like religion. (Well, except for the possession of actual quantifiable evidence....).

"cycle...Compression, release, distribution, re-compression..." Not a physicist, but that idea has always made the most sense to me. A big bounce rather than a big bang. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loop_quant

Just responding to the title (which is not factual). I didn't even read the article. Unacceptable prices and value judgements aside, drug wars _can_ be won and they have before.

I'm against the drug war and for people's choice to decide what they want to put in their bodies. I'm also against waste, cruel treatment and general stupidity which are also reasons I oppose the drug war. That being said, I

Three pictures of myself. 2 most recent, one with beard and one without are both 1 year older than I actually am... not bad. One from 4 years ago was guessed at one year younger than I actually was, again, not bad. But according to this, I&

"I feel exhausted, struggle to concentrate and find myself procrastinating.." That sounds like the problem. Not that you are 33 or your co-workers are younger. You should find out what is up with the concentration and procrastinat

There is so much crap that comes out of startup guys, but occasionally one comes across a diamond. I'm bookmarking the page. This is wisdom.

There might be a "food related start-up" bubble but I don't think there is actually a "food" bubble. If anything, its the reverse. More mouths to feed. Less water and land and pristine ocean to do it with. Providing

I hear you on owning the soul and dis-respectable people. I don't think we should let ourselves be abused. In the case of the original poster, if what he says is accurate (we don't know, we aren't there), he is being abused b

Loyalty is a deprecated value I suppose. So let me put it like this... we are riding together in a boat. The boat has a hole in it. Not my problem?

R.E. #1. Don't do this. The company pays you, not your boss. Therefore, you should have the companies best interest in mind, not the personal best interest of your boss. Ideally these two things are aligned. If they are not there is a

Heh, cool stats lesson. Always learn something new on HN. The only thing I didn't catch was how they were to figure out which of the accounts in the sample were fake.

I wonder how Facebook came up with the 7% fake accounts number. Certainly social media profits short term from these schemes... as long as they don't get out of control and threaten the entire business model. So the cynic in me suggest

My Family had years of chat history and photos on "MyFamily.com" when they shut down. This included information from members who have now passed away. I agree fully, their handling of it was insensitive and incompetent and I'

So that movie "The Internship" with Owen Wilson was just fiction and Google doesn't really hire out-of-work 40 somethings who don't know anything about tech for their sales experience?

I recently built a moderate sized project with Bottle. The application won't get many simultaneous users as it's for a single small company. The single file, no dependency setup was nice. It's similar to Flask but simpler...

There is nothing new about abuse or folks becoming assholes or bad work situations. Although I do agree the American workplace has a high degree of dysfunction and is not nearly what it could be.
