Thanks- I'll start changing the language, had no idea. What would you call something like this though? Curious what might convey the idea better.

No but I'm sure our scale is a bit different and I can see how that could be an issue since they probably don't want to dish out cash for streams to people who aren't there. I take care to make sure that you're not AFK b

Yes, their API doesn't let allow for music streaming / playback access unless you have a Spotify Premium account. Also even if it did there would probably be an issue w/ keeping people in sync assuming Spotify wanted to conti

Thanks! 1. You don't need to know the person in order to listen with them. What you do is you create a room (or join an existing one) and then you can either step up and DJ in the room (with friends or strangers) or you can just do not

Hi everyone, I posted a comment a little while ago that gained some traction so I'm posting my solo project here. JQBX is a social listening platform that lets you listen to music in real time with anyone anywhere. You can also chat, v

Sure- a couple of (oddly specific) details: 1. Long lists (>100 items) don't perform well if you have to reorder them. Initial render is a bit slow but not that noticeable but if you have to reorder or add/remove from them on t

Yeah it's fun- and you're right about the licensing and reliance on Spotify. Hopefully it all works out but who knows :) Sorry about the perf- it's a known issue and I'm working on it, I only recently got it (somewhat) f

Thanks! And yeah heavily inspired by tt.fm (RIP). Hopefully the community keeps growing and can bring some of that 2011 internet magic back.

Thanks! BE is Node + Express. I tried to keep a lot of the logic in the clients to it's pretty slim. I'm a FE developer professionally so keeping it all within the JS ecosystem was most comfortable for me.

There's a desktop app available for Mac (it's an electron port of the webapp- if anyone's curious). A windows version is coming soon (ETA ~1-2 months).

For JQBX the styling is done differently between mobile and web. I stared off using scss for web (old habits die hard) and then had to use JS styling for react-native. Not the biggest deal though since the UI is where the two apps diverge t

I use React + React Native for https://www.jqbx.fm . As a 1 man project it seemed like the only sensible way to build mobile (android/iOS) and browser versions. I can share almost all of the code (where applicable) so one ca

I've had to do something similar for an eCommerce business (my wife runs an online toystore). 100% agree having a reason to go to places you would otherwise never go to is amazing. The random connections/experiences has changed me

Can I ask for a ballpark of what # of users it took to get to that inflection point when SEO and word of mouth takes over? At least in my experience getting to there has proven to be the main challenge. Also- thanks for taking questions and
