It's great to broaden one's thought processes to relate to all kinds of startups. I'd be curious to know who's working on non-software startups. Tim Ferriss got started with an energy/vitamin supplement.

from wikipedia: Vonnegut played himself in a cameo in 1986's Back to School, in which he is hired by Rodney Dangerfield's Thornton Melon to write a paper on the topic of the novels of Kurt Vonnegut. Recognizing the work as not Melon's own,

The answer is obvious (to me): Without yellow there would be no blue! Blue is built on the fundamental assumption that we can model the world using yellow. Yellow is the most green.

That is an interesting thought and one of the many problems with the way data is typically organized. This IS the "sports" section of the paper, but whether or not this is the appropriate paradigm is certainly worth questioning...

And I'm sure you also think people should not spend their money on Rolexes when a Casio will do, or on Mercedes when a VW will do...etc. People pay for what they want to pay for.

But when lawyers told Mr. Malamud and Mr. Swartz that they appeared to have broken no laws, Mr. Malamud sent Mr. Swartz a message saying, “You should just lay low for a while.” It's not illegal, so what's going on? Trying to collect $1.5M

Good to link to the prior discussion, but that item is no longer open for discussion, so it's not inappropriate to re-post if an interesting discussion is to continue. feature request: dupe only detected when discussion is still open.

There's a development impact...Apple has to find a way to close them off. Then Palm writes a new workaround, and Apple has to expend more effort again. The underlying statement to Apple is: if you don't want Palm to do this, you have to op

A noble cause, but the implementation may need more thought. Outspending the lobbyists is not a sustainable solution. What would prevent lobbyists from spending more? (requiring an increased "tax", etc...) How would this "tax" eventually b

Certainly it's tactical, though I wouldn't say it's all publicity. I think they're trying to hardball Apple into opening up (or negotiating an agreement for use of) their distribution channel.

You're way off here. The article suggests that the workaround took ~40 hours. Plus, it's not just "free-riding" on Apple's software, it's using Apple's music distribution hub. You may be thinking it's as simple as writing a winamp skin and

I'd define "rich" as |wealth| You may define it differently, but that's language isn't it.

Two comments: 1. "Smart" is not a scalar; "rich" is. 2. True that hard work alone will not make you rich, but [extreme] hard work coupled with working-on-the-right-thing has a very high chance of making you rich.
