I predict “aliens would leave all sorts of cool weird stuff” and you predict “nope just more rolling hills”. My theory is wrong, but it assigns higher likelihood to Stonehenge than yours. That’s why I don’t like the license plate example.

So the UFO people are right? They predicted this sort of thing all along, without any prior knowledge of Oumuamua. I don’t recall hearing about fractal comets before?

I don’t follow. If my “ancient aliens” theory says that Stonehenge should occur on 50% of planets, would you automatically favor it over any theory that sets steeper odds?

If so, shouldn’t we add more data—-a fourth integer? TFA seems to suggest removing even what little benefit the three integers bring.

VIPs don’t have to pay to get in to nightclubs. Do you think that’s a huge cost? If so, why would club owners agree to it?

Same thing, different perspective. If I supply something (dev time, clean water) I think there’s no shortage; they just need to pay more. If I demand something (dev time, clean water) I will say there’s a shortage if I can’t get it for a ce

The Taleb thing (going furter off topic) seems too reliant on an “efficient market.” I bet bad surgeons harm patients at a higher rate than good surgeons throw bad suregons out of the boat. https://forbetterscience.com/2016&

Surely that’s wrong. If Apple makes a “bad” UI but all other UI is even worse, then Apple is still the pinnacle of usability. Saying “Usain Bolt Too Slow” is obvious clickbait.

A name drop no less. “McDonald’s is dead cows.” “Too much Smirnoff will get you drunk.” It implies comparison to the competition, and cheats it’s way in front of an audience that wants to compare products.

Law is a bit like programming. Imagine reviewing commits to a vast codebase on a tight deadline. This feature seems to belong in a different package. It should be factored out. But the code builds, and rejecting the whole pull request wou

For me that’s a supply constraint, not demand. If MBPs got better as fast as iPhones I’d upgrade.

Phone lifetime is bottle necked by performance moving on, not by wear and tear. Even so holes in the wall fix the common hardware issues for like $100.

A regulator that can give you everything you dream of, can also take away everything you value. At the risk of sounding like a freshman libertarian.

A longer exclusivity term makes it possible to recoup more investment costs, for those who invest in artists. This theoretically enables larger investments that can support the artist further up front.
