The difference between all of those other mechanisms and surge pricing is customer expectations and control. All of the discount systems you talk about are predictable, so the customer doesn't need to spend any energy re-evaluating the

It's a difficult pivot to make because it really is not the same job, one of them is still fundamentally about tech and the other is not.

Spreadsheets aren't fundamentally different from programming, though. It's one thing to have a nice neat way to see all (or many of) the variables at once and do computations on them. It's quite another to have fuzzy AI progr

I actually like this answer way better since I don't have to wade through three paragraphs of the medical version of corpspeak.

I think that case is complicated at best, because a lot of things people say are group identity markers and not statements of truth. People also learn to not say things that make their social group angry with them. And it's difficult t

Why, exactly, do you believe that AI will be more just than human judges?

I'm talking about ML training. I think human training is expressly covered by fair use (i.e. copying for educational purposes). Sorry for the confusion, I misread your comment.

I can't understand how anyone thinks we're capable of aligning AGI when we can't even align tech founders. Corporations are a proto-AGI, and they're the least aligned entities I can think of.

The blockchain merely robbed naive people of their money. Stuffing AI into dating is an even stronger way to commodify people than dating apps themselves were.

Lots of people have said that it's illegal to train on copyrighted material without a license to it. Also, performance licenses for movies, plays, recorded music, and copyrighted scores are all required. The lack of copying is not rele

OpenAI built it for a combination of their own gratification and cold hard cash. What do you think motivates AI researchers? What do you think motivates OpenAI employees now? Sam Altman? Microsoft?

But that's the thing, prompt formulation is not engineering in the sense I'm talking about. We know why a plane flies, we know why an engine turns, we know how a CPU works - mostly. We don't know how GenAI gets from the promp

AI is not an engineered system; it's emergent behavior from a system we can vaguely direct but do not fundamentally understand. So it's natural that the boundaries of system behavior would be a topic of conversation pretty much al

This is why I find chatbots to be very creepy. I can't help but have some kind of empathy for it, even though it's a machine and doesn't have feelings. I really do not need that kind of confused thinking in my brain. (Similar

Cheats and hacks aren't the same as bots. Even a cheater wants to engage with other players. Bot players are only there to farm items or leveled characters for sale as quickly as possible.
