Process upgrades are a variant of fail-over on either hardware death or bug. I recommend treating upgrades as a chance to test your failure recovery processes. If you really can't afford someone getting a "connection refused"

I just had to do the same thing, and had a completely different experience. I sold our stuff on an auction site (TradeMe, the NZ EBay equivalent), with $1 reserve, and applied some of the lessons I've learned from lurking here. My wife

Of course, all that's really happened is I've replaced the free plastic bags from the grocery store with non-free garbage bags from the same store. I still use the same amount of plastic.

I was surprised to learn that mobile networks use a lot of xDSL links to their base stations. They're faster to get provisioned than a traditional data link. So, anything which increases bandwidth in DSL will benefit mobile networks.

Given that a child's laptop will likely be connected to the school's wifi, where any other child would then be able to sniff the keypresses... Yes, it's a problem.

If that were true, Americans could simply vote for a local government that increased density allowing new units to be built. Foreigners can't vote and therefore ultimately do not control that part of the process.

My experience is that Internet connections are price competitive with the US (and perhaps cheaper). You can get 100/50 with 80GB of traffic for NZ$110/month, which is US$91.64. You can go full unlimited at USD$115. Amazingly, th

The bigger problem has always been when the version number is marketing. I worked in one team, and there was a contractual requirement that v 1.16 was the last version we would ship. So, where before we would increase the number at certain

In New Zealand, the posted speed limit is often too high for the road. If you drive the speed limit, YOU WILL CRASH AND DIE - frequently taking another car with you. This is because: 1) Very few divided highways 2) Blanket speed limit of 1

This can be intentional. If there is a dangerous piece of road where the average speed of traffic is higher than the road will take, then put a trap in to slow the traffic down to the limit. It doesn't have to be over the entire high

If more than one signature was allowed on a certificate, then sites would be able to have more than one path to the root. Then it wouldn't matter if any single CA was removed, giving people time to obtain new signatures.

There are other post-scarcity economies, some of which are discussed more in depth than Star Trek. The first one that comes to mind is Cory Doctorow's "Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom"[1], which uses whuffie[2]. [1] http:
