This is a great podcast, I've been a fan for a while now. Every episode is worth a listen. Woods' story is just another piece of evidence that "3 strikes" rules have no benefit to society.

It's pretty cheap to embed a tiny GPS receiver and crappy chip antenna these days. Probably enough for time sync in many situations.

Is any of this data actually valuable? Or are these just more puffed-up business models that will fade away as the hype bubble pops?

Perhaps you have never worked with the type of person described in this post. They are relentlessly oblivious. Oversharing and monopolizing your time, every day, all day. I quit a job to get away from someone like this who was in a manageme

We're going to look back on these days as a modern tulip mania. So many of these companies (and serial startup employees) are not even living "fake it until you make it", they are on a new and better plan: "fake it here

The theater/parking renovations totaled around $37 million. Bringing BART to Alameda is, according to your link, a 12 to 15 BILLION dollar project. That's 300 to 400 times more expensive.

If you're trying to start a real business, your competitors are mass market sex toys with a $2 BOM cost, not one-off dildo-sawzalls pieced together in someone's garage.

by jpm_sd 8y ago
That is an incredibly large amount of engineering effort to compete with plain old vibrators, and also appears to misunderstand the target market. Was your BOM cost 100x higher than the competition, or only 10x higher?
