Ouch. That impacts a lot of physical definitions, like joules. -edit- On re-reading, I guess you weren't proposing changing the second, right?

JET's days are long gone. The SQL Server Desktop engine is the underpinning for Access now. It essentially _is_ SQL Server. The biggest limitation? The concurrent transaction count is limited to 5. There are others, but it is a far, far cry

So, that's interesting, but it solves a problem that others are creating. I'd rather solve it the right way, and enable a feature that works well for me : tagged emails.

7's the key number here. Think about it. 7-Elevens. 7 dwarves. 7, man, that's the number. 7 chipmunks twirlin' on a branch, eatin' lots of sunflowers on my uncle's ranch. You know that old children's tale from the sea. It's like you're drea

DBLink connects to remote PostgreSQL databases only. FDW extends that idea to arbitrary data stores. Wrappers exist for Oracle, MySQL, Redis, Amazon S3, text files, etc.

Wow, sorry. I misspoke. I meant to say constraint exclusion. Exclusion constraints would be pretty hard to implement in a distributed system. That said - constraint exclusion wouldn't be all that rough, would it? The eventual goal I am thin

Now, just give us a way to apply exclusion constraints across federated partitions.

Context or not, I doubt disrespect was intended. The capital casing in the article title is a recognized norm in the written English language. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capitalization#Titles

I did read the post. It does cover both default and maximum. I didn't dispute that. I called out the notion that anyone ought to be depending on the defaults in the first place, or that SERIALIZABLE as a default was a good choice. Yes, many

Huh? You ought not be depending on the default isolation settings. If your workload needs serializability, set it. Most don't. CAP teaches us that ACID is a spectrum in a distributed system.

Transactions are most certainly not irrelevant for reads. They are quite necessary. Explicit transaction blocks for single-statement reads are pointless. Extra packets for the transaction demarcation even more so.

The PostgreSQL docs, and source code, are an absolute shining star, in Open Source or otherwise. I'm hard pressed to think of a project that does it better, really.
