Yeah I hate that people can't acknowledge that friction is sometimes intentional. Not everything -should- be easy. For example I designed a system at a previous company that used Shamir's Secret Sharing to protect a very very impo

I ended up teaching a friend to program using Kotlin. The downside was just telling them to just accept what the IDE wizard lays down as gospel first but the advantage was that running code from main() or tests was always a fully IDE integr

It's very hard to switch the mindset though. It becomes ingrained such that even when abundance is the new state of affairs scarcity still dominates the mind.

If anything this is a cautionary tale against running a database without reading the docs for how it should be configured. The PostgreSQL defaults are extremely conservative... for a system in 2010.

I think they should just delete that number and just show energy and energy remaining at destination. It will annoy some luddites but it's the only reasonable way to display the actually important information, i.e will I make it and ho

That is because the "range" and the "energy use for this route" are two different things. Really you -always- want the latter but people seem to think that it can be simplified to the former, it just can't. Spherica

I think around ~2017? However at that point it would have just been LA and SF, Postmates usually did staged rollout of stuff like that and I don't think we did significant alcohol deliveries until ~2019 or so.

nit: UberEats actually got alcohol delivery as part of the Postmates acquisition in 2020 IIRC. Disclaimer: Worked at Postmates at the time of acquisition, we definitely did alcohol.

They aren't really created equally though. epoll and kqueue really are just edge-triggered select/poll. However IOCP and the new io_uring are different beasts, they are completion based APIs vs readiness based. To quickly explain

Maybe look at undervolting, you can do it from the AMD software pretty easily and for me it solved a bit of a coil whine problem under boost scenarios but YMMW it depends on sample to sample I think.
