Before I learned lisp, I remember seeing this sentiment expressed a lot and thinking people were underselling the difficulty and overselling the usefulness of "programming your text editor" as opposed to just configuring it via st

I remember wondering why "return" is in the Monad class when you can just use "pure" from Applicative, and why (<>) and "mapped" both exist, so it's cool to read the historical explanations here. The

Well, for my project I am using CLOS in CL where I used hash tables in Clojure. But yeah, if I went for hash tables, it would be getfs and setfs to mutate the table, or I saw there are immutable operations for hash tables in CL as well. It

Some examples of things that make Clojure click quickly are being able to use seq operations on all core data structures instead of learning how to work with list, vectors, hash tables, and sets separately, documentation being great with to

That was specifically referring to the availability of code examples for the core library on clojuredocs.org (I know hyperspec has some code examples as well, but they haven't been as comprehensive imo) and the ability to seamlessly ju

I've been building a personal project in both Clojure and Common Lisp to make a DSL for scraping web data, transforming it, and outputting it to a few backend formats. I would say it's been significantly harder to achieve the same

Hello! I saved a URL to a great article you wrote about web development in common lisp, but the domain appears to be offline. Any chance you have a new site? Sorry for the off topic reply, I don't think this site has DMs..

I ultimately went with unmanaged dotfiles as well, it seemed like the most sane option. I host all mine on github so on NixOS machines I would just clone the repo and symlink to it as needed like I do on regular FHS systems.

Is a fresh install not an option for the system you're describing? I'm not suggesting that it's a sane thing to have to do, but after a couple of hours of resesrching the problem with no leads it seems like the best choice.
