Opposition leader Boris Nemtsov is killed. What better way for Putin to distract attention from the murder than to disappear himself, leading to rumors of Putin's death?

Eroom’s Law is scary --- It says that it is becoming harder and harder to develop new drugs. We have essentially exhausted the pipeline of diseases that can be treated with small molecule drugs. It is time to embrace alternative technologie

You state it as fact but it remains a matter of heated debate. If all the DNA were important then why are large swaths of DNA allowed to undergo genetic drift?

Couldn't agree more. Evolution as a process has no regard for simplicity or elegance. The solutions that Natural Selection "comes" up with are random. I guess you could say that all organisms have a design, but that the desig

That is a rationalization for drinking beer. I'm not against alcohol, but I am against people deceiving themselves about its effects. Alcohol will make you less, not more intelligent.

Dropbox has too much to lose and not enough to gain by stealing your files. The accusation borders on paranoia. That said, Dropbox is a closed system, and I always trust open systems more.

I love Julia. I used it to write a restricted Boltzmann machine in less than a page of code ... and my code has lots of whitespace ... and without much effort. It helped that I knew matlab.

That's a tough one because not everyone reacts to a drug in the same way. Perhaps for some people psychedelic compounds and drugs are beneficial, but for others they are not. Regardless, it is just stupid to insinuate that LSD will mak

When I first looked at the genetic code, my first question was where is the code? The letter sequences and arrangement of genes looked random. Gradually I started to realize that the genetic code is random , and that the design of an organ

Wow. I always knew the US exported arms, so I kind of expected that we were the worst offenders. But whoa! Look at Russia. The country must be depending on weapon exports to keep their economy going, which is simply not diversified enough t

The word science gets overused, diluting what truly is science. This quote from the article says it best: "Science is not a body of facts," ... “Science is a method for deciding whether what we choose to believe has a basis in the

You're totally right. Not only are computers laden with a lot nasty chemicals, but the insides can become really hot, which could help the chemicals leak out. At the same time, computers have become indispensable to our lives.
