Ah yes, I didn't even consider ⌘ + Tab. That's very much like the iOS multitasking tray.

I would argue that in the past couple years, both Microsoft and Google—and not Apple—have been setting the trend in software design, notably in the growing rejection of skeuomorphism and the embrace of flat design.

> iOS's popularity is largely due to its intuitive UI. I think that's true, which is why I'm so interested in iOS 7. IMHO, iOS has become much less intuitive—where I once found that ordinary users could understand and use most of the fu

If anything, I think "fold to unlock" better expresses Apple's current visual style, which is that every element of the OS must exist in physical space somewhere—i.e., the multitasking tray exists "below" the home screen, the notification c

I would argue that Mission Control—not the Dock—is the equivalent of the iOS multitasking tray. The Dock can show applications that are not running, while the multitasking tray cannot (at least, from the user's POV). When using Mission Cont

No, not linkbait. :) Sure, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but Apple's design choices also create trends that are echoed both on and offline by designers everywhere. Edit: I think what makes iOS 7 particularly interesting is that, IM

Support for git would be awesome, but I think the product now is pretty great. I'd love to be able to hack away on APIs without doing the set up work.

Engaging post, but I do not agree with the author's assertion that "Buttons can make or break your brand." As a designer, I've spent a lot of time crafting pixel-perfect buttons, but out of these examples, I could only pick out Amazon, Squa

If the Hacker News algorithm is surfacing the wrong items, or being gamed, then that's a question of relevancy. It "deserves" to be on page one because it received a substantial number of upvotes.

> Maybe i'm missing something... The original comment said that "What is ultimately important in life are people..." Dustin Curtis never said that people weren't important, just that choosing the best objects is. That's the straw man.

Entrepreneurs start companies for many reasons. The author seems content to unload his negative feelings on any company that's ever a) been acquired, b) fundraised, or c) pivoted. Sorry, I don't share his feelings. Every circumstance is dif

I love this thread: it's populated either by founders of Manu's portfolio companies, or entrepreneurs who pitched him and got valuable advice instead. I fall into both categories: the former in my current company, the latter in my previous

True, but the UI elements traditionally associated with BeOS came out in ~1996—so I stand corrected, it was a few years later than I stated in my original comment.

I always liked the BeOS interface—at least, in the context of the early 90s, when its popularity peaked—but I find it pointless to clone a 20+ year-old UI. With Kinect, Leap Motion, and other forms of input, it seems like there's a huge opp

I'm sure the value of the theft is immaterial to AOL. The security breach is more serious, and the bigger issue, to me, is that other startups in the same building that are behaving ethically could suffer because of one person's behavior.
