Not sure that this is true. It might be. But more likely being active enough such that you get the 15 minutes of sunlight daily needed to maintain normal vitamin D levels is better advice.

Even bigger issue than base rate is that this is a retrospective study, so I suspect heavy measurement bias. Patients that are likely to have a Vitamin D level checked are different than hospitalized patients. Vitamin D levels are not che

I've searched extensively for any studies that describe the 3 month follow up and found exactly one, recently published. I would love if you could identify more. Results aren't really as described here. Some patients recover, but

With tens of thousands of publications on COVID, its absolutely amazing how few there are on the follow up of these patients. (ie what comes next after infection). There is so little data we are flying blind (again). That said, there is evi

Certainly hard to measure, but Figure 2A certainly looks like an adherence chart. Regardless, in RCTs we usually consider a 'intention to treat' analysis gold-standard. That means that since you are assigning an intervention in th

This. The EMR does go down from time to time. We still have paper order pads around so that things can get done. Its annoying AF. You have to fax things to radiology to get a scan. You have to walk to pharmacy to get meds. But, the system w

Don't we just end up with a balkanized internet? A Euro-net, US-net, China-net? I guess Canada goes in with Euro-net?

Transverse myelitis, usually causes by viral infections, can cause complete paralysis below the level of the lesion. Just like a transection of the spinal cord. Quite serious, I would guess determining the etiology in this case is going to

IBD is very different from IBS. IBD is an autoimmune disease with a pathologic diagnosis (ie requires a biopsy and microscopic evaluation for diagnosis). It’s treated as almost autoimmune diseases are. IBS is a syndrome (the S in the name)

Doesn’t this represent a huge potential financial opportunity to whoever can figure out how to properly recognize the value in these places/owners? What’s stopping some forward looking bank from doing so?

Yet there are people not wearing masks because they believe they don’t work, refuting your point. As it’s still going on, I’d say it took more than a week.

I find that in office politics, once data is presented, it becomes the 'facts'. (Or at least the narrative that gets promulgated forward.) It's incredibly challenging to change the 'facts'/narrative. Often beca

Well, you better be willing to wait a couple days for a non-emergent MRI. Because MRIs take longer, they are a more scarce resource. If you are in the hospital and need a scan, presumably its because the doctors are trying to diagnose somet

The problem is when you are screening lots of people, most of whom don't actually have cancer. The individual risk is low, but the population risk is high. And when we talk about cancer screening we have to think at the population leve

Yes, this is right. But, the even more important metric to measure is mortality. Detecting a cancer that is 100% fatal 1 day earlier than traditional tests obviously wouldn't be that impressive. Even if the PPV is very high. It's

What is incorrect? COVID causes blood O2 to drop because it causes a viral pneumonia. Early stages of a viral pneumonia can be pre-symptomatic or entirely asymptomatic. Asymptomatic patients can still transmit COVID to others. Patients with

Most of the time we don’t numb patients to be honest. I’ve had it done to me, we practiced on each other in Med school. It is painful, but I suspect the Novocain you got didn’t work because it’s the artery that’s painful not the skin. But i
