Yup. I'm a huge fan of the vox plugin approach to python and venv management. No more virtualenv hacking the shell... it's a first-class citizen. Plays nice with pyenv too

I've been using Xonsh[0] for a couple years as my daily driver and I swear by it. I'm also a Python dev so that's part of the appeal. It's billed as the "unholy union" of Bash and Python. [0] https://

I love spreadsheeting in org-mode. It's been very useful at work for sharing complex processes with QA and other devs. With org-babel and SQL I can extract DB data into org tables, manipulate them like a spreadsheet and then do additio

Cool project for sure, but it does provoke the obligatory Emacs org-mode as a spreadsheet plug. [1] I use it often, mostly for my D&D character sheet, but occasionally for work. Works the same in terminal or GUI, with elisp formula eval

Thanks! Xonsh is my daily driver. With the vox plugin, don't even need virtualenv

I'm sure you're right about penetration, but I've found EIN [1] very usable, and particularly like the org support. [1 https://github.com/millejoh/emacs-ipython-notebook/blob/mast...

Invariably when learning a new language, making a Mandelbrot generator is my first project (after tutorials). Added benefit: I can compare benchmarks since Mandelbrot algorithm is CPU heavy.

Agreed. Sadly ox export for markdown doesn't render markdown tables. Of course, as the OP argues, that's a little like exporting PDF to EPS.

PHP has made huge strides with 7.0+ but honestly a JIT was nowhere on my list of feature requests. We use it at work (with CodeIgniter) and it gives the company a big pool of reasonably qualified talent. For anything outside our web apps, w

Look into Purism Librem 5 with PureOS. They pushed release back to Q3 but it's a very interesting project.

Not using Nix but there have been a few libs I've "pinned" in our remote agent by the expediency of simply including the package source wholesale in our app root. Currently just an old version of PySNMP, but there were others

Any opinion on the utility of Emacs Org-mode to organize and manage LaTeX? In particular Org Babel?

I added an .editorconfig to every project at work. As lead it's my perogative to enforce standards. Personally I'm not super picky. If it's not mangled I have no opinion on formatting or editor choice of any dev on the team,

This would be really nice in conjunction with Emacs' tramp-mode. I find it annoying using the browser to navigate remote code. I'm curious to try this out!

We use it to orchestrate agents, most of which, but not all, tunnel into VPN concentrators scattered across the globe to monitor and control remote devices. Admittedly ours is in the M2M IoT space for now (Digital Cinema) -- we don't d

I think this is true. I learned the Emacs keybindings and now they're muscle memory. I can't transfer that to Vim, but I could have transferred the other way and be proficient in two great editors. Nobody wants to die on Emacs Key

When I took C at University of New Mexico, and later Data Structures and Algoithms from the same professor, Emacs was required. Period. He even provided a download of his .emacs file (still tucked into my init.el). He also stressed make, gd
