Even that can be disputed. They typically have quite different domains of applications. Gamedev is seldom done in C; operating systems are seldom done in C++. Their different level of abstraction ends up having them applied to different thi

They are so often spoken of in the same breath in ways that other languages are not, that I think a lot of people do forget that they are not the same thing nor even that culturally close.

The only attack I feel is calling C/C++ a language. It's two languages and we don't like each other very much. People who spend a lot of time trying to write good C++ avoid much of C's bread and butter like malloc and fr

Wouldn't be a payment if CPU cycles didn't have some scarcity. My laptop would be fine with 30 seconds of a CPU spike, though. Most phones could probably also tolerate it.

While this is obviously malicious, I think I would favour paying for things with a few CPU cycles, as long as it was voluntary and overt. Want to read this article? Please click here to mine a cryptocoin for 30 seconds. Great, thanks! Here&

I still can't believe that the movement to kill net neutrality was (is?) called "restoring internet freedom". I guess it's a shortening of "restoring internet service providers' freedom"? But the longer fo

I generally like Mapbox but I've had some problems with the quality of their geocoding and still would get better results from Google's geocoding. It was a pretty niche thing, though: mapbox doesn't have as many European post

It does have enough users -- it just depends on which network you want to generate an effect. I'm able to have discussions on writing, on mathematics, on coding, on politics, and on society on Masto. It's not a ghost town.

The F-Droid Twitter feed had existed for several years and was always tiny. It became a mirror instead once the Mastodon account got vastly more popular.

Open Benches had "hundreds" of followers, so they're already way more insignificant than 2k followers on Masto.

That's what I said, it depends on the project. An open data project has a good chance of finding an audience on Masto, I think.
