I think the key here is not to just provide a toggle for using Glacier instead of S3, but to have the historical snapshots migrated to Glacier from S3 and deleted every 90+ days. I will gladly pay more money for Arq again.

Kinda: "In the coming months, Amazon S3 will introduce an option that will allow customers to seamlessly move data between Amazon S3 and Amazon Glacier based on data lifecycle policies."

"If you look at the bottom of the home screen you'll see a yellow icon next to the Chrome browser". Yeah, that and also Fred Wilson's foot.

I know you're joking (and I doubt Linux on the desktop will ever be a thing) but it would be hilarious if Microsoft were the one to propel the old PC assemblers into making a Linux push.

I know of at least three (great) people here at Yammer that we previously hired from Yahoo.

The design with the big customer photo also has the most obvious "call to action" button. Not only that, it has the least amount of links that go elsewhere.

Jim has written large amounts of Ruby code at Yammer (and Javascript, for that matter). I'm pretty sure he knows the difference.

I'd agree. Yammer followed pretty much the same path: our main app is still a Rails app and we ship more Rails code every week. We've migrated some key parts out to HTTP services written in Scala, Java, or node.js.

Or you could switch bosses and come work at Yammer where we use Scala to ship infrastructure services every week: http://jobvite.com/m?3m785fwq

Skyhook does the same thing Google is doing. They drive around with GPS on and record MAC addresses. Then they correlate the two. They know which group of MAC addresses are "visible" at which GPS coordinates. They also do constant updates t

Homebrew targets specific versions of OS X (currently 10.5/10.6). Within a released version of OS X, they don't tend to break backwards compatibility.

I agree (I actually commented on the linked site before coming here), Apple became the largest seller of "real" UNIX workstations a while ago. CDE does not UNIX make.

I used to have a canned email that I used to reply to recruiters. It basically explained (in better words) that I needed the name, website and physical address of the company, because I was very picky about culture and location, and it woul

Funny: "Matasano" in Chile is a slang term for doctors, and not a particularly nice one. It translates to something like "Healthy-person killer".
