Hey HN, a friend (current business partner as well) of mine built this. I thought it was cool, so I decided to pass it along. The main use case is when you're away from your computer or don't see the desktop notifications, you can still kno

Bingo. Git workflow/collaboration needs to be made simple for everyone involved. Shameless plug: http://gitpilot.com is our attempt at solving the problem. But, I think you hit the nail on the head that developers need to make Git easier

I think you hit the nail on the head. I'm surprised that this hasn't been brought up by a previous commenter. In America, culturally, Christmas is a celebration to receive gifts. I don't see it this way, but on the surface, I think that man

I believe that the parent is referring to the link that the OP submitted. If so, the parent is correct. The link submitted doesn't state much at all, other than purchasing options. The OP should have submitted the actual homepage, the page

I thought the zlib support could only handle gzip files and not zip files? This would indicate that it only supports gzip files: http://zlib.net/zlib_faq.html#faq11

While it is indeed cool that this is done in the browser, it'd be nice to see some emphasis on using it within Node.js. Presumably, it'd probably work without too many modifications.

Spending the first 20 mins watching this talk is well worth the time for any programmer. The talk is about how your head and your gut react and function differently; and how it impacts you writing code.

Wow. This email lacks empathy and understanding of the situation that Backify users are now in. I'd be surprised if they converted any users over to LiveDrive. People want a company with a personal touch. Why don't most companies understand

Thank you for this. jsDom was the only other server side DOM implementation, and it's garbage (buggy).

You would use it for testing your pages or for screen scraping. Having the DOM server side allows you to use most client side JavaScript libraries such as jQuery.

Sincere meta question: do you have a SSD? I've found that any machine without a SSD feels sluggish after using a machine with one. I have a MBP with 8 GB ram and a 6 GB/s SATA III SSD... it screams past any machine that doesn't have a SSD.

Interesting... I as a Silverlight dev now learning JS/HTML/CSS would say the complete opposite. I find it very difficult to create similar layout functionality like DockPanel and friends. Any tips?

I am/was a Silverlight fan. When Microsoft made it clear that they were focusing on JavaScript (I realize it's not standard's compliant) with Windows 8, I finally spent a lot of time considering the situation. Apparently a lot of the Silver

It's my understanding that making your URLs human friendly makes them more search engine friendly IF the url contains relevant keywords to the page. The link you provided is just about dynamic vs static urls, which is not what I'm referring

Does anyone find it a bit ironic that these page URLs are NOT search engine friendly? Just a long string id... seriously Google? Maybe not irony because they own the search engine... but still makes you scratch your head wondering why.

I've used MongoDB in production since the 1.4 days. It should be noted that my apps are NOT write heavy. But, many of the author's points can be refuted by using version 2.0. Regarding the point of using getLastError(), the author is comple

The biggest problem that I have with Bitcoin is that there's a bit of an impedance of trading dollars for BTC and vice versa. When you could use Dwolla, that helped, but now that Dwolla pulled out (at least that's my understanding), it's ev
