One step closer to modern day Cuba missile crisis. I guess it is good news that the world is still standing, all things considered...

I would not count on Google to make public any such thing. But a third party could test it out to build such a list. And that could include caveats like "works if you ask in this form, no if you ask in this other form".

If the result of the undo is that the remote branch (say main) is back at the point where it was just before, then that is actually a kind of change one could allow? As it does not rewrite history, just reset to previous point in time. But

For sure this is a learnable skill. I made Linux packages for open source projects that were not my own, and definitely learned a lot about this. If anyone wants practice today, go set up a bunch of random GitHub projects.

Restricting a process to only be able to access opt-in list of directories underneath the project directory would be useful. Assuming one uses a venv, and all the dependencies are contained there. Then one might want some data folder. And h

Start with Docker and a PaaS like Heroku/Render/Fly/Dokku to get the core web service things without getting lost in all the proprietary vendor-specific things, or the madness of building one's own cloud just to run som

In workplace health and safety there is a term "life altering". This is used for the high impact but not deadly accidents, that are still very valuable to reduce the risk of. Like having an arm torn off, or going blind. I think we

Sometimes decision are not reflection of the merits of the individual options, but of the fundamentals of the challenge. Changing a business platform is an incredibly invasive/disruptive move, with huge costs (money and opportunity) an

I think that spinning up a separate process is the only real way to properly contain a large C++ library wrt memory (un)safety. It can still be useful to wrap in Rust though, since it is more pleasant to write IPC code in Rust compared to C

Nice. Another meta thing I would like to do, is to generate a bunch of prompts around a topic, mashed up with related or unrelated other topics. So that I can get a bunch of images and just be able to review/curate them all in one go.

git add -p is my default. Usually what I have been up to belongs in 2-3 separate commits, each with a good commit message. For example a bug found and fixed while developing a feature always goes in its own commit.

The schematics, engineering drawings, 3d models, CAD files, process documentation etc for making a car engine (or anything else) are all copyright protected. So how exactly is software special?

WS2811 and similar have a dedicated control signal line, and power+ground (3 leads total). I'd like to combine power and control, so that there is only two. Mostly because it allows to be compatible all the existing non-smart DC stuff.

If one could integrate some logic that can be communicated with over a digital protocol it would get real interesting. Maybe it could be the start of an open source I/O chip for the Klipper 3d-printer firmware. The output stage could b

That sometimes is about quality. For example the quality assurance one can put into welding at a factory is much higher than what can be realistically guaranteed on site.

Robotics has the same problem today: Human labor is cheaper and more flexible. In the future we might see this as having been as stupid and inhumane as we today see slavery in the Roman times.

You should rise your rate to 2-4x that, and only bother talking to companies that accept such rates (possibly in other regions). If they haggle and you like them / the project, give a symbolic discount like 20%.
