Just FYI, "irregardless" is not a word. The word you want is "regardless". Yes, I know that "irregardless" has now made it into dictionaries and whatnot, but that is just because it is misused so often. (Con

I live in Lancaster city, which is heavily Democratic -- the same pattern as everywhere else.

by jononomo 3y ago
Yes, I completely agree —- tiny islands of walkability. Lancaster does have an Amtrak station, though, so you can get to NYC without a car and then walk around there.

Yeah, living without a car is definitely a luxury lifestyle. It's funny how the tables have turned and a relying on a car is now a sign of poverty.

This is why I prefer the East Coast of the US to the West Coast -- many cities on the East Coast matured before the dominance of the automobile, which makes them slightly more walkable. The West Coast is just car culture down to it's

These are not arguments against steelmanning -- these are arguments against doing something else and calling it steelmanning. In other words, this is strawmanning steelmanning.

I confess to being one of those people who doesn't believe Darwinian evolution explains the origin of species (let alone the origin of life). Of course, I see myself as taking an entirely empirical and scientific perspective, but I do

The concept of steelmanning comes from Sam Harris.

Airbnb was awesome for several years and then it just became shit. I guess they make more money, somehow, by being shit, but I wish people would care about something other than making money and becoming shit.

You need more than time for the emergence of life. You need intelligence.

Everyone has a theory just like everyone has an opinion. Some people think Trump won the 2020 election. Other people think life came from crystals. Whatever, man. No one has a clue how life emerged.

Not only that, but Earth is probably the only planet that has life of any kind. There is simply no explanation for the existence of life at all. Nobody has the faintest idea how life came into existence, and the question of the origin of li

I have definitely stopped posting and commenting on social media. It just seems like no one really cares what you have to say anyway. I still scroll a bit, though.

Honestly, I just really like David Heinemeier Hansson and Jason Fried. They always seem to be a step ahead. The ReWork Podcast is always worth a listen.

The problem is the media landscape we are in -- anything they did would have backfired because of how many bad-faith actors and angry people litter our society.

I don't understand the people in this thread defending Amazon. They're just an impersonal corporate conglomerate that doesn't give a *&$! about you. Capitalism is about competition and the more competition the better.

Why would anyone know what aspartame is? There are often a dozen chemicals listed on the package -- is someone supposed to know what all of them are? Do you avoid food containing Disodium Inosinate? Why or why not? What about Agar-Agar?
