All the European developers I worked with in Berlin used Macs. I can understand using Linux, but using Windows as a web developer just doesn't make sense because all of the tutorials and stack overflow discussions and forum discussion

This is the least relatable comment I have ever read on Hacker News. When I switched to a Mac from a Windows machine it was like switching from living in a van to living in a luxury condo. I will never go back.

Nope -- try reading a collection of essays written 75 - 150 years ago and it will soon become clear how stupid people are today. And why do you think technological leaps lead to better thought? The most profound thoughts that have ever cr

I had never heard of John Prine until he died of covid -- I think obscurity to that degree rules him out.

Honestly it seems to me like that quality of "thought" has decreased since technology arrived on the scene. People don't learn Latin anymore, and they can't write letters like the soldiers in WW1, let alone the Civil Wa

You must fart a lot with all that fiber in your diet. One of the blessings of switching to a diet that is appropriate for human beings is that your digestive system will operate a lot more smoothly and you'll stop farting so much. Yo

Way too much fiber in that diet -- you'll end up pooping a lot more and you'll probably also fart. If you stick to a meat-only diet then you will literally never fart. Also, you might be able to get protein from plants, but you w

In my humble opinion, if you're a software engineer in the modern world, then learning Postgres is about as fundamental to your job as learning to dribble would be to a job as an NBA basketball player. It is the just the foundation of

You're going to have to pay to host your Rails/Django/Whatever app anyway, and you're also going to have to pay for a hosted Postgres solution, so why not just get them both in one deal and then also dispense with the ne

It saddens me that it is not universally understood that the way to get in shape is not to exercise but to stick religiously to a diet of only fatty beef, eggs, and sardines.

If you religiously limit yourself to only eating beef, eggs, and sardines, then you will consume the fewest calories with the greatest return in terms of nutrition of any possible diet plan.

If you're eating plant matter then you're eating indigestible fiber that you have to poop out -- this is a problem that no one eating only animal-based foods has.

And the volume of your poop has certainly increased, since vegetable matter contains undigestible fiber, which animal-based foods do not contain. Enjoy pooping and farting more!

Frankly I don't believe that statins are necessary in 99.9% of cases and I think that people focus far too simplistically on cholesterol. I can remember that days before the HDL/LDL distinction. Now it turns out that moderately h

High cholesterol is a good thing in the absence of obesity or any other negative health indicators. You want to have a lot of saturated fat and cholesterol in your diet, frankly. And eggs have not been tied to colon cancer in any meaningf

Here is a shorthand way to figure out if a food is nutritious: if it is fatty beef, eggs, or sardines, then it is nutritious and you should eat it. If it is not fatty beef, eggs, or sardines, then it is less nutritious and you should not e
