I absolutely agree that comparing Google and apple is silly. But calling Google an "artificial intelligence" company is just feeding another buzzword into the fire.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. If NSA contractors were brazen enough to look up the private information of spouses and "ex-lovers" [1] I don't see why the IT departments of education systems won't evolve to be susce

It would be an interesting thought experiment to estimate the number of developer hours spent on chat applications in the past twenty years. It would be a very large number, and I don't know how i feel about that.

For many people "serious due diligence" is a Google search. Relationships between people, even business ones, are based on trust. You'll rarely know if someone deserves your trust by the time you have to give it to them, so i

Great piece by John Oliver. I wonder what it feels like to work for those companies.. Lives were surely ruined by this.. how do you sleep with that.

My dream is to have enough free time to rewrite a large open source project from es5/6 to typescript. One day.. Edit: I meant refactoring as a way to improve the project, learn typescript, and learn the project itself inside and out.

I came across a guy a few months ago who generates a six figure income for himself via click fraud, though apparently via Google's platform. I think their is a certain amount of Black Market SEO Google/Facebook/Whoever will w

Anyone feel like these type of visualizations will be much more common in the future as we try to better understand software processes? It's really such a great way to demystify or reveal certain patterns in various algorithms.. Great

People down-voted this because they hate outsourcing due to code quality etc, yet they didn't down-vote a managed wordpress hosting solution.. seems like a double standard.

My reply was a little rough. I just get frustrated because I remember when I was 'new' and would've taken articles such as this as sacrosanct. I just think we have to be careful whenever we say "this is bad, do this inst

Most of OP's complaints come from the misuse of JQuery, including compounded performance issues when paired with a SPA framework (in this case Ember, which IIRC has a dependency on JQuery either way). Slow + Slow = More slow. Honestly

I think there is a difference between "just good enough" and "has reached maximum efficiency". I think a lot of people want to settle at the first one, yet I see the second one nowhere in sight.

Yup, it sucks. And it's become par for the course. My biggest fear is that a downturn in VC will only cause more of it.

I'd counter that free tip with a dose of the real world. That less then $50,000 is rent and payroll. If I'm a software start-up with a < 10 person team and I'm six months into a six month development cycle, and oh shit we

J. Cole said it, "Don't save her She don't wanna be saved Don't save her She don't wanna be saved". REST is a convention. Like all conventions it excels in some cases and confuses in others
