Ubuntu Software Center doesn't prompt about dependencies... it just goes ahead and installs them. At least that's the default behaviour on 12.04 on my two machines.

I haven't used much Scala, but Haxe (haxe.org) sits somewhere between Javascript and Java. I enjoy it, ymmv.

One of the interesting things of Mozilla's approach is that their entire stack is standard HTML (or, it is planned to get it standardised). Assuming they stick to this, and other browsers adopt the standard, it means that developing an app

Very cool idea! Been wondering if something like this exists. You say "Professional features coming soon"... a feature that I would pay for is turning an RSS feed (or a group of RSS feeds!) into a podcast. Great way to receive your news e

The short answer is that Haxe isn't very good here yet. Many of the companies using Haxe are game studios, and so they just invent their own UI and it doesn't matter if it doesn't feel "native". In terms of the two approaches you mentioned:

I'm a haxe user. What exactly are you wanting to know? If by reliability you are talking about it consistently not breaking between versions, then it's fine. Between versions the compiler does add new features but for the most part backwa

What sort of advanced features are you hoping for? Genuinely interested, I use Haxe and find it's type system advanced enough for me - but maybe there's awesome features in other languages that I don't know about yet.

Ouch. It's always sad to see someone forfeit their intellect and take someone else's thoughts as absolute truth. And I say this as a churh-attending Christian. Shame on my religion.

Haxe (www.haxe.org) also has ported a decent subset of the API, and can simultaneously target Flash, JS and C++ (native). Not sure about who has better coverage of the full API.

As someone attempting to create a MVP and then bootstrap in Perth, thanks for helping me feel less-bad about my efforts :) It is possible to have a startup here (one of my day jobs is at one), but it is certainly less common than I imagine

I live in Perth where this guy is from, and Wesley is one of the most expensive and most highly regarded schools around. Given the sentiment of the headmaster, I'm not surprised it's doing so well... Seeing beyond "get my school's average

The defacto-standard already seems to be happening with Twitter Bootstrap. Give it another few years and I expect this will spread into more well-known apps (or the current startups using it will become more prominent). And I do think peop

That would be the ideal interface. 1) Open camera from lock screen 2) Take photo 3) If QR code is detected, offer to open it. 4) Later when browsing photos, remember it's a QR code, offer the link again, so that we can come back to it later

I'm guessing the server is under some load at the moment as it's running pretty slow. But very cool demo page, been using it the last few days. I'm impressed with how small Haxe's JS output has gotten lately. Clément hacked this together

I came in expecting to hear people ranting about why jQuery is inferior to some other Javascript framework / coding style. Instead the people are positive and the sample code is sweet...

My laptop is in for repair and is taking a disturbingly long time, but my friend lent me his out-of-use EeePC with a 10" inch screen. I'm amazed at how much work I have actually managed to get done. When I'm in the office I dock it to a ke
