Pure speculation here, but I'd bet that this is a direct response to Hulu's price drop in Hulu Plus when opening to the general public[1]. The selection on Netflix is better (well, larger at least), but unless they can at least match the s

What is your site? Posting a URL here couldn't hurt. I'm sure there are some HNers who would give it at least give it a chance.

I'm not saying they shouldn't be expected to follow SOP, I am saying that I'm not surprised that it doesn't always happen. By no means should this be excused. People make mistakes. It just happens to be the case that this mistake is wor

The thing that sets this post apart from others of the same category is the fact that the author was not given a choice in the search. This is exactly what a lot of discussion around here has been about (though admittedly the opposite of t

I think the problem statement means that each prisoner must find his name independently of one another. e.g. Prisoner 1 opens 50 boxes, finds his name, then the boxes are closed and Prisoner 2 must do the same without any help.

How is this in any way a secret? Sure, they don't go and shutdown sites and disrupt services for months while integrating acquired companies like Google does, but the bottom of the amazon.com home page lists their sites. Amazon buys sites

I get what is being said here, and I somewhat agree with it. Telling people something bad happens doesn't actually do anything to stop a bad thing from happening. And yes, having everyone use HTTPS all the time would be a better way to co

This seems to me as though the phrase "denial-of-service attack" is being used loosely here. Firesheep is not a service being extended by a central server to many users. You're blocking the individual user (or users) of firesheep with thi

The targeting seems off. I expected the towers to attack the enemies furthest along the path, but it seems like they might be attacking enemies closest to them.

On the note of testimonials, this might be a good opportunity to leverage something like facebook or twitter. Testimonials can often look contrived. Linking a testimonial to a facebook account would tie it to a real person and make it mor

Is this definitely against the ToS? My feeling is that this was bound to happen. This is analogous to ebay sniping services, no? Even if they don't like it happening, I would be surprised if this didn't become fairly commonplace. Worst

If the Nook is any indication of how this will work (and judging by how the game has been played with price drops / wifi versions so far, I think it is) the lending will be "once and only once". The details for the Nook lending feature are

For the most part, this seemed like an interesting blog post, but toward the end, it came across as a thinly veiled advertisement for this iOS framework. My apologies if I have misconstrued this, but the title is misleading. If you're adv

My understanding of the kindle lending process currently is that we will only be allowed to lend a book once[1]. Unless they say otherwise, this model would not work. I do think that eventually this will be opened up to work like actual b

I'd highly recommend Little Brother by Cory Doctorow. I read it last weekend and simply couldn't put it down. It's along the lines of 1984 but less extreme and thus more believable. The (free) ebook can be found at http://www.crapho

I can't agree with this more. The best courses I have taken didn't have a textbook. If I don't struggle at least through some of a course, I'm probably not learning anything. Part of this seems to be that (in my experience) few people ar

There seems to be a lot of disagreement about lower bounds here. The best case lower bound is trivially 0 since you could start with a terminating permutation. The article is talking about a worst case lower bound, which is what one would
