Probably important to note that this was being pushed for by a lot of Black health organizations: https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2021/04/16/civil-right...

>Nobody smokes because it tastes good, menthol or not. I was just talking with some online friends yesterday who smoke and say they would never have started if it weren't for menthols, so I think you're wrong about this.

True, but of itself that's not necessarily a health problem. I was talking about the limited evidence that it can harden your arterial walls and such.

Agreed. Unfortunately the social perception of alcohol is still at a place where banning it would be impossible, though. People don't even want to talk about making it more expensive. Alcohol still doesn't have nutritional labels

>You’re not allowed to put something deemed bad in your body because the “people” have to pay for it. Has any country with socialized medicine actually banned tobacco fully? Genuinely curious. If they haven't then I don't under

Tobacco is vastly more harmful than marijuana. I don't necessarily agree with the justification but I don't think these positions are inconsistent.

Nicotine is potentially harmful in a few ways but mostly it's the constituents of tobacco smoke, particularly nitrosamines: https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20121116-can-we-ever-have... .

I am not terribly surprised to learn that code review processes for the kernel are not as stringent as they should be. However, I do wonder whether the kernel's defect rate is significantly different from that of NT or XNU, and whether

I've used both on and off, for a couple years each. Ultimately what made me come back to Music was simplicity and ecosystem integration. Big fan of the social features in Spotify though, like the Wrapped "year in review" feat

I guess I should say I don't disbelieve that your mother in law was having problems with the memory in her computer, I just find it baffling because I use mine extremely heavily and my RAM usage rarely peaks like 12GB. Just to check, I

I don’t think that’s accurate, because Docker on macOS involves virtualization. And Teams is the worst resource hog I’ve used. Though I don’t use Office or social media much (Twitter occasionally) so maybe that’s it.

I pretty regularly have Slack running while compiling Erlang in the background, running a Docker container, several dozen Firefox tabs, and a Microsoft Teams call going, and I do not have problems with 16GB on x86. Perhaps ARM Macs use more

It depends what language you’re in. As long as you can use fakes, it doesn’t matter if you use interfaces or not. In C#, implementations are sealed by default so faking them is not feasible unless you make the function virtual.

I find myself making object abstractions more in languages that do not have solid support for functional programming. In OCaml, I can build dozens of useful abstractions off of a handful of small functions by using currying and partial appl

FYI you can set a "delay" in your profile of up to 10 minutes before your comments are shown, giving you more time to edit. May not have helped in this case but it's a cool feature.

What do you mean when you keep saying “market rate?” You describe your competitors poaching your employees by paying them more, and saying it’s not fair because you can’t pay them that. Tough shit buddy! Sounds like you’re paying below mark
