This reminds of the worse is better debate. Specifically how the “better” crowd spent a lot of time trying to solve PCLSRing while the “worse” crowd just said: meh, throw an error and let the program figure it out. Previously https:/&

I think golang is designed intentionally to make it easy to read unfamiliar code. To paraphrase: The idea being that a well designed library api gets you 90% of the benefits of a richer language’s features, but without exactly that penalty

If we could support a larger file, we can just zero pad the counts (stored binary) to max needed length. Then we get accurate seek to entry # x. If that is not possible, precompute the average count representation length to get an accurate

I always ask when one of these discussions comes up. Can anyone recommend a for that does all of these: * proportional (yes) * sans serif * has the common programming ligatures The proportional with programming ligatures bit tends to reduc

I think posts like these are why I haven’t even looked at rust as an alternative. Here the author has boiled the problem down to its minimal form, and it’s still 10s of lines of code. It is this weird overlap of over-verbosity a-la c++ and

Is the author of the spec here? I notice in section 6.1 reliability, the word “must” in clock going backwards mitigation is not MUST. Intentional?

Isn’t ignoring the difficult edge cases of commutative operations what got darcs and theory of patches into problems? I never used it (darcs) but got the impression that it was easy to get into merge cases that were very hard to resolve. (T

I’ve not noticed malware so much, but several legit independent programming resources (baledung, as a random example of a possible target; not sure I’ve seen their content stolen) will have their content lifted wholesale, slightly cropped t

When hooked up to the grid, converting from electricity to heat for storage makes alot of sense (to me). But I'm curious about your case: why not use the old-fashioned solar water panels to create hot water directly?

oh. That's a bit disappointing. I was envisioning a clock where the second hand dragged the others every time it passed over. So the minute hand would only move when swept over by the minute hand, for as far as it needed to revolve. S

I'm assuming you need to unplug the battery to set the "true" time? Else you might be adjusting the "I'm in my +10 minutes phase" (for early clock, f.ex), turning it into late clock. (?)

This is super neat. I identified a desire for the tolerance clock (*) many years ago, but never thought I'd see it implemented. (*) The tolerance clock always displays time that is within some tolerance of true time, but that is all it

I guess I always assumed that IRC was decentralized; one server could drop, or go rogue, with no ill effects. But that's probably an anachronism, given the age of IRC.
