The problem that remains in Mountain Lion is that you can only use 1 display at a time when in full-screen mode. It's better than Lion in that you will be able to choose which of your displays is used to go into full-screen mode, rather t

FWIW, Mountain Lion will fix this and comes out in about a week. It doesn't fix the fact that you're left with one (or more) useless displays in full screen mode, but it does let you choose which display to do the full screening on.

The response to this seems mixed so I think it's worth saying: it's very important for them to at least try this. The current YC model may have been met with the same response when first proposed (I expect it wasn't even this good, I don'

For what it's worth, it was intended to be a slow transition (3-5 years) since it's a chicken/egg situation because of backwards compatibility. The good news is that adoption should pick up very quickly after this fall. Python 3.3 will make

For those interested in how PyPy works, I highly recommend watching these presentations by Dave Beazley about RPython: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjnRLG8ATn4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkt_BtR9Kzk Also, for those going, I beli

It shows you that it's not about: price, protection, or availability. Many times it's just because people want it for free and are not willing to part with their hard-earned money. It's entirely about price, (lack of) protection, and av

Really, what's the problem? If you can look past the fact that Jobs didn't kiss the customer's ass you may realize that a CEO of a Fortune 500 company was personally responding to the customer's problem in the most effective way he could at

In my eyes there's a huge difference, they just look the same if you don't bother to listen to what he said and don't pay attention to Apple's response in the context of the way they run their business. It wasn't a friendly response, but it

One of the most frustrating examples of people telling lies about Jobs is the meme that he told an iPhone user that they were "holding it the wrong way" when they complained about the iPhone 4 antenna. What he actually said was (and this is

I see your point, but disagree. I think it makes a lot more sense for HN to do whatever HN believes is the most effective thing, rather than do what reddit did. I see it as fake work. We would being doing something ineffective to prove a po

I agree: great topic but light on details. If you're considering ideas for additional posts, I'd personally love to see case studies from Pinax itself to see exactly how/why to use the techniques you talked about.

I've seen...really smart developers use notepad...there's probably a lesson to learn. I find that really hard to believe, and I can't imagine what the lesson would be. It's akin to a NASCAR driver driving a Camry. It's true that the tools

Seems more of a trade-off than an improvement. That's exactly the point. Instead of trying to compete directly with the iPad, Amazon is serving a different part of the market.
