This seems to be fairly common for non-cs students taking cs classes. Though just anecdotal evidence, the student vice president of Stanford was recently found to have violated the honor code by plagiarizing a CS homework in Stanford's intr

The article's argument seems to be semantical in nature. I don't think many people would argue that learning about history is useless. The author and I hold the exact same beliefs -- knowing that the Pilgrims landed in American in 1690 is

It's cute, but it's only popular because the guy actually has some real credentials. If you tried this with a medicore resume it wouldn't work.

I agree, but I still think the commercials are too much. It's a lot of fun to argue with friends about whether the player was down before he fumbled, whether they should go for it on 4th down, whether the ref made the right call, etc., whic

This is pretty shocking as a Stanford grad student. Apparently several students sued the university 15 years ago (Corry v. Stanford University) and won. You can read response of the university president at: http://www.stanford.edu/dept/pre

Before 9/11, you didn't even need to have a weapon. Often saying that you had a bomb on you would be enough (just like how some robbers only use a note they pass to the teller). People don't do it anymore because they know passengers will f

There are some schools that specialize in offering admissions to students who haven't completed high school, such as my alma mater, simon's rock college. It's not quite what the author is advocating, but if there are any high schoolers her

Another possibility is to not graduate at all, and go to a school that accepts students who have not graduated from high school. I did this, and went to Simon's Rock College. It's not a super prestigious school, but there are a lot of stude

I don't like being skinny. I've been skinny my entire life. Last year, I was 6'0 and 135 pounds. I started working out and eating more. I'm up to 160 and look a lot better. I don't look like I'm starving, I fit in my shirts a lot better, et

Please don't do this. If you're going to work out (and you should!), you want to use a real routine. Here's a quick check: if your routine doesn't involve doing all of weighted squating, deadlifting, and benching every week, it's a bad rout

I've always viewed this as a plus for tabs. Personally, I think two spaces is too small. If I'm looking at someone's code and it's hardcoded to two space indentation, I'm screwed. But if it's using tabs, I can set it to whatever I want. Som

In the sciences 20kish per nine months. Presumably a few thousand lower in the humanities, but I'm not sure. It's actually not that bad. The area is expensive and I can't afford a car, but it's enough to live comfortably.

I don't think that's what he's saying. I interpreted it as "If your startup turns out to be a success, then it was a brilliant move. If it doesn't, it was a crazy move"
