I think it is noble to preach being rich in the moment. I think for Derek quitting his job in his 20s to play music full time was for sure a mark of affluence in his social circle at the time.

Each node independently comes to the new difficulty on their own in an entirely deterministic way. After 2 weeks there should be 2016 blocks mined, 1 block every 10 minutes. After each 2 week period every node recalculates the new difficult

That isn't even slightly true. This debate has been settled a long long time ago. Running a full node is the only way to assure the integrity of the currency. Increasing the block size decreases the number of people that run full nodes
