In theory: Nothing! In reality: The same thing that has prevented that from happening for the last 6 years; a strong focus on a core set of usecases and no desire to become a generic website builder :)

At the moment we've just got a single plan with either a monthly or yearly price point, and adding support for more flexible subscription options is high on the todo list to work toward next!

Hi HN, John from Ghost here. Thanks for the comments about 3.0 — we spent a lot of late nights on this, and it's a pretty big upgrade for Ghost as a platform (which is now 6 years old). I know the audience here is generally more intere

Hi! John from Ghost here, had a quick look and can't see any issues on this side with the cert. It's a relatively new certificate, though, so there could be an old cache on an edge node somewhere which just hasn't fully updat

You can also combine the two and use a Ghost back end with an Eleventy front-end, fwiw: https://ghost.org/docs/api/v2/eleventy/

We generally serve several of the front page stories on HN every day (some we host, some we don't) - so very used to dealing with high traffic loads @OP - If you're interested, drop me an email on john@ghost.org and I'll set

Sure thing! I Gatsby generates static HTML files from 1 or more data sources, which can be a filesystem or an API. When a Gatsby build runs, as long as it can access the API in question, then it can pull the content needed to generate a bui

Hi HN! John from Ghost here - happy to answer any questions about this. We rebuilt our docs using Gatsby and the Ghost API last year and ended up liking it so much that we rearchitected everything to make the the JAMstack workflow a first c

This is possible with Ghost :) it functions as a headless CMS and can be used with essentially any static site generator which can pull content from an API, eg. Gatsby -- https://docs.ghost.org/api/gatsby/ We'

John from Ghost here - Firstly, big congrats to WP team for launching 5.0! We have lots of ideas around extensibility for Ghost, they just increasingly don't look very much like plugins. We've always been hesitant to ship somethin

We have no real way to do anything here, unfortunately. Medium deliberately export a totally vague dump of HTML files which don't even contain publication date and are essentially unintelligible. They also have no API to read from. The

Not strictly true, Ghost has a lot of built-in features for SEO. In particular: Detailed schema.org microformats and structured data, automatic canonical tags, automated + user override-able custom meta data, automatic XML sitemaps, SEO fri

Yes it can, it's not a perfect experience (yet) but quite a lot of people are already using it in this way. We're also generally interested in a more decoupled approach to the front end, so you can expect this to improve further i

Heyo, John from Ghost here. Thanks for the kind words so far about 2.0 — it’s been a hectic few months! Earlier this year I talked about how we were shifting focus from simplicity to power - https://blog.ghost.org/5/ -

Yes George. WordPress.com is a centralised, multi-tenant application which also syncs code from the open source project. Very good. It's still not equivalent to running the same code, or being in any way a comparable to a managed host.
