Such anger for this question. One good answer (so far) and two unhelpfuls. It’s a good question perhaps asked badly. So I’ll take the liberty of rephrasing. Why learn lisp today instead of haskell, rust, kotlin, or any of the myriad other l

Junk DNA is like dead code your IDE greys out for you in a large code base. They’re still there even though nothing uses them anymore.

Just as possible that allowing this consciousness to do exactly what it was designed to do and achieve such a sublime state of flow that it would be a crime to NOT let it experience Pong.

One of my favorite games of all time, begin (a text based Star Trek game) has a similar bug where you could warp in the negative direction at infinite speed. I still remember the commands: w 90 -100, f a t. (warp 90 degrees at warp -100, f

I’m a few years beyond you and my expensive sports car was really cheap (a saturn sky). But I 100% agree with your sentiment. When I found we were pregnant in the mid 80s I stopped all screwing around and got to work. It’s was a necessary t

Please disabuse yourself of these sentiments. There has never been a better time to be alive and your three year old will have a far better life than you or I. Climate change is a problem but there will be solutions.

I have tinnitus in both ears. Most of the time I’m not aware of it but at times it’s very annoying. I’m very careful to not let my thoughts about it become dark because I can see a very clear path toward depression about it. I do hope there

I have a simple system. For every “project” I’m involved in i make a new Google folder and at the top of it i make a notes doc. The document has a table at the top filled with pertinent information about the project, and then just below tha

Reset is a powerful command that happens to work for the “uncommit” use case. I use reset for a completely different use case: my CI system watches a specific branch for changes and when they occur builds it with a specific configuration. I

This is price discovery in action. From the dealer’s point of view it’s worth jacking up the price that they are willing to take because some consumers will just pay it. Other consumers will try to bargain and they’ll find a (slightly) lowe

Helpful. There once was a command line tool that would turn a C declaration into english (like cdecl.org) I’d love to see something like that for the nix language (and kotlin too since I’m dreaming)

Its probably that I grew up with c like languages. When I try to read something like { pkgs }: { deps = [ pkgs.cowsay ]; } It’s meaningless to my brain.

I tried to like nix. I spent many hours tweaking my macOS setup but now I’m back to brew. The nix language is just too foreign to my way of thinking. I love the concept behind it but the language is a huge barrier to entry to many people an

After seeing postgREST on HN for the first time last week, I put together an example using their tutorials. I had a hard time getting it to work so when I finally did I thought I'd share! Happy US Thanksgiving!

Kudos to Raspberry Pi for choosing to call it the "400". An obvious nod to the Atari 400, the computer-in-a-keyboard of the mid 1980's that I grew up with.
