You can talk about hypothetically doing anything. You're not really making a point. Hypothetically, you can rewrite the firmware for the IPMI with a backdoor and extract data. Hypothetically, you could kidnap the family of a developer

I have servers which have literally been running non-stop for multiple years. Unless / until the kernel itself needs to be upgraded for security issues, and so long as backup power is good, they can run indefinitely.

Honestly, medical security is more theater than real security. The people with marketing prowess sell crap for much, much more of a markup to the medical world than to most other industries, excepting perhaps military, and just like many ot

It's interesting to consider the people who, with the very same set of facts, come to completely opposite conclusions about security. For instance, Amazon has a staff of thousands or tens of thousands. To me, that means they can't

How dumb could a person be, suggesting that something be installed in an expensive airplane that couldn't possibly ever be turned off! Sigh.

Indeed. Too often I hear about how people need "features" without even knowing what they think they need them for. It's like the drug companies selling drugs on TV - suddenly people are asking their doctors if they need some

Of course it saves money. The main selling line of the cloud is you're too dumb to administer, so just trust them and throw money at them. If you're not too dumb to administer, then running your own hardware is invariably cheaper.

Well, that's another matter. Slowness might come as a result of brokenness, but slowness by itself doesn't mean anything. I host a web site on an LC III+ which is often compiling and multiple tens of megabytes in to swap, so I kno

This is awesome. I still keep around an ImageWriter II I found in a dumpster two decades ago because they're incredibly reliable and will print no matter what. Ribbons are plentiful and cheap, the printer doesn't care about the ki

This is an incredibly poorly written article. First, cops lie more often than they don't. Second, saying that a taser, "administers a shock of about 1.9 milliamperes" means absolutely nothing. Third, errors like "Taser&#

No. That's silly. The logs would've / should've just shown that the program halted because it was confused about data. The actual commands to fix would've been quite different.

Sorry, but a MAC address page doesn't need cookies, nor cloudflareinsights.com, nor buysellads.net, nor carbonads.{com, net}, nor a completely ridiculous amount of Javascript. There are plenty of better sites to use, such as Wireshark&#

For something like this service, simple rate limiting per IP / netblock, along with TCP/IP fingerprinting for VPN endpoints and such, could be very effective. I run histograms for connections per netblock on my email servers, and

"What I've done to my workers, I want to now do to you" is one hell of a campaign slogan. On the other hand, someone telling China to go stick it is always fun!
