At least on a performance vehicle, that's still far too heavy IMO. 40ish lbs? The (cheap) wheels on my Miata are 11 lbs, without any exotic materials or crazy engineering. Almost quadrupling the unsprung mass is a hard sell performa

I remember a story from years ago in the news where a family (I believe the father may have been a jeweler) had their house burglarized. They had a house fairly far away from their neighbors, and the suspect literally brought a circular sa

Cali is the only US state where lane splitting is legal. How many people with a long commute are riding motorcycles to work every day? The weather is great for it. Were I in the bay area, I'd be riding in every day. If not for the

An opposite anecdote: I bought my Nexus 5X used on Swappa. It finally bootlooped about a month ago. Called Project Fi support, they transferred the phone to my ownership in their system, and then issued an RMA and sent me a refurbed 5X.

Is there a real alternative? The patches themselves form as a notice, if anyone happens to be looking closely at the project. I'm sure a blog post widens the audience, but once the patches are public, the cat is out of the bag.

I wish I could be as excited as everyone else re: the new Firefox. I've never switched to Chrome, and dealt with some of the previous performance issues. I dealt with these issues because of Vimperator, which as far as I know, won&#x

My wife and I went on vacation and didn't have the proper "club card" for the store. 867-5309 worked as a phone number, and was issued to a "Jenny".

The "lifetime guarantee" of Craftsman just doesn't have much sway anymore. All of their tools are made in China junk that breaks if you look at it funny. The quality is just non-existent these days. Might as well just go t

You're comparing industry-wide fraud with an illegal practice that individual citizens do? I'd wager that there are easily 100,000 trucks on the road in the US for every one that can "roll coal".

Wayfair has done this. Sent them pictures of a (fairly pricey) door handle/deadbolt set that had scratches on it. They said to just keep it and do whatever with it, they'll mail out another one. Super convenient, and now the do

All of these battery saving options are great, when they are painless. Running apps that _need_ to stay in the background like Tasker is a much more painful experience now than it was a few years ago.

How did you train yourself not to bottom out the keys? I've been using mechanical keyboards for a few years now, but gave up quickly on trying to not bottom out due to sheer frustration with non-registering key presses.

I must be doing it wrong. We bought a house in AZ with a 15 year, 2.99% interest rate. The MITC made almost no difference, even for the first year where I was paying mostly interest.

I've been running unstable for years, and have had what you mention happen exactly once. If you're on unstable, use apt-listbugs and don't update every day, and _generally_ you'll be fine. Don't use giant DE'

Docker isn't included in this release (thought supposedly will be coming in something like 11.1). The GUI is stable in 11, there's just an _option_ to use the redesigned, beta UI.

Pentadactyl/Vimperator will soon stop working, I believe at FireFox 57. Firefox is removing the ability to run XUL extensions, which will effectively be the end of the awesome VIM plugins for FF :(

In my experience, this always seems like a cool idea until you use it with keys that an end-user can define. Then you get to watch your code blow up when they override some other function you've defined on the class.

The reality is, as far as I can see, there's just not much benefit in using Docker in a crappy (read: small) pool-of-app-servers-on-top-of-a-database webapp. I've had a lot of newer devs pushing to use Docker. I haven't had
