Is it difficult to run a forum without the users learning your real identity? That seems like the way to go, but I have no experience with that sort of thing.

I’ve read that the FCC will actively pursue reports of pirate stations or other illegal interference, and they’ll drive around the neighborhood in a van to triangulate the offenders. In fact here’s a list, but it looks like they stopped upd

I have one in my house too, but I mainly use it for reheating leftovers and popping popcorn.

I can assure you, as the world’s leading behavioral psychologist, a former Miss Universe, and the winner of last year’s Eurovision contest, that the poster is totally qualified to speak on the topic.

I think the goal of the squatters isn’t to own the property, it’s to just get a roof over their heads and extort the owners in the process. They’ve carefully chosen a legal zone where they have a lot of room to maneuver.

There are some tropical fast-growing trees that are denser than water. In Costa Rica, there are rivers with logs on the bottom as a result of poorly-planned logging expeditions. The trees are so heavy partially because they take up silica

What happens when that common goal is antithetical to the company’s ability to turn a profit?

Probably not helpful here, but: if you want something 3D printed that doesn’t feel or look like it, you can print it at very high resolution in ABS, then expose it to acetone vapor for about 30 minutes. The item will smooth out and the late

Seconded on the Trackball Explorer, it was an absolute joy. The day I started using one, I immediately went out and purchased a backup. They’re both dead now.

Someone else mentioned the prevalence of vandalism against trains crossing the country, and that all too many trains arrive at their destination with bullet holes. A hydrogen-filled blimp would be a tempting target for people so inclined.

Thanks again for sharing your experience and perspectives on all this. It’s emboldening me to go indie and start my own company rather than chase the mirage of stock options.

This is all very true. The one possible exception would be entrepreneurs who can’t access the experienced, professional investors, because they don’t have the right educational or personal connections. If these people exist, then public in

One common thread to frauds like these: often the first person the conman cons is himself. It’s all too often that some ambitious tech entrepreneur embarks on their journey, but as the road gets rough they begin making ethical compromises.

I’m financially illiterate, ignorant, and as a result my net worth is not significant, but I was excited to actually know this answer. Maybe there’s hope for me!

I used to agree with you, until I discovered that (surprise, surprise) Hangouts works great on Chrome, not so much on other browsers.

I was about to dispute this and say, “no, most business relationships are win-win.” Then I remembered that Google’s business relationships aren’t with their users. So, yes, you’re no doubt correct about that.

Sorry to hear you had that experience. At least it’s a lesson learned, in fact you probably learned many while doing all that. If I may ask, which industry was it?

One interesting bit of advice I've heard for solo founders is, pick an industry to serve that interests you, or at least one where you like the people who work in it. Yes, the customer will always be your "boss" of sorts, but

You don’t even have to be young, necessarily. In fact being an “older” person in tech probably means you’ve built up a wealth of experience, and a cushion of resources for getting your business started.

There is quite a bit of case law precedent over the past fifty years, notably US vs. Miller, that upholds the “Third Party Doctrine”: if you give your records to a third party, then the government doesn’t need a warrant to get those records
