Definitely. Projects that predate git and don't absolutely need dvcs will probably stay in subversion for the rest of their natural lifetimes. Plus tools like Joey Hess's mr make working in a heterogeneous vcs environment somewhat managea

This would be disastrous for scholarship. While I don't know anybody using the Kindle right now to conduct research, it's not too hard to imagine that this could become commonplace in the future. I already use Amazon's Look Inside feature w

For some reason these arguments all seem to start with the assumption that we are not all zombies. I have yet to see any good evidence that we aren't and it seems like the simplest explanation.

They derived laws that were already known. It won't be until their system derives unknown laws and relationships, then we'll have something.

I almost wonder if "Google Everything" would have been a better name for it--some aspects of just about every social website could be replaced with waves. It overlaps a lot with the functionality of Facebook, Twitter and 4chan just to name

I'm not familiar with the studies you are referring to, so what I am about to suggest may have been controlled for, but I wonder if the apparent increase in strength of the placebo effect is simply due to recent drugs being less effective

Why does google need to advertise to end users? Most of the savvy ones already know about Android and the rest probably don't care what their phone runs as long as it can do email, get map directions, etc. If they are spending money on mark

I completely disagree with your second point. The manufacturer necessarily markets almost exclusively to the doctor. Most patients will happily go with whatever their doctor says is the best device on the market. And health insurance is pro

At the risk of being very cynical, which do you think makes more money for the pacemaker manufacturer (and doctor and hospital, etc): a pacemaker with an eternal nuclear battery, or one that has to be replaced every few years?

Sola fide is a controversial stance, at best. Consider James 2:26, "For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also."

I have seen this argument being made frequently here recently--that the "AI" that we have produced is not "real" AI. This is understandable true in a way, since after all, AIs cannot do many of the things that natural intelligences can do.
