The difference is that people are starting to believe them now and extrapolating in a future where there's fewer other investment alternatives with high potential gains.

Tesla themselves are telling that story: 1. The world largest utility for electricity (combining Powerwalls + Solar) 2. The most profitable transportation company (personal automobiles, semi-trucks, and autonomy)

Yeah, I've got the same general feelings about PayPal as well. I'm hoping that GitHub and Stripe both evolve their offerings in the future to be more honest and easier to use platforms.

We're using PayPal for a couple of reasons (named in the article). But the reality of an early stage (bootstrapped) startup means you get a crazy low credit limit, so when we paid upfront for our server hosting that got us close to the

Fair point on profit vs growth. But the idea that a mid sized city's scooter permit was the sole reason for the acquisition still doesn't seem reasonable. Possible, just not reasonable

Funny, but doubtful that's it even the majority of the reason for this acquisition. Do you really think there's $25M in profit by operating one of many scooter rental services in San Francisco? I'm sure the permit was a nic

We've been using Full Calendar as part of our startup, and really really appreciate all the work Adam has put in. We honestly couldn't build some features if FC wasn't around - so thanks!

We're using the ical standard to pull in events, though we've found so many instances of companies breaking RFC 5545, it's hard to call it a "standard". Happy to chat about how we built this feature, for those inter

Hi Pia, we love Open Collective and are using it to donate to one of our sponsored projects. The platform is a great way to relieve a good deal of pain that OSS devs would have to endure in running a funded project. One of the hardest thing

I very much agree - we put most of our donations on a recurring basis. Oddly, a few projects specifically asked for a one-off donation because they felt like a recurring donation would make them feel like they "owed us" something.

At GitHub, we faced the same issue when ZenHub [1] came out with their chrome extension. While, Slack is well within their rights to _ask_ you not to modify their user experience, it's short sighted of them to do so. With ZenHub, we wo

Super true. I wonder if this (more granular) decision making is so unique to circumstances like team, idea, and market... that folks can only give the more generic advice without steering someone down a wrong path.
