The question is how you interpret the decision of the other party not to move forward. Call it a failure on your side, and it will be a failure. There really is some deeper truth to the remarks in the other comments to frame it as a learn

You are so right. Which exactly points at the problem: Multiple OS package managers (choose one), and for each language/framework/... that you use, one extra. Which includes headaches for how to handle overlaps between the two.

Would the rep who claims to be in fear of losing her/his job be employed from that cottage industry? That would make the claim sound a bit more plausible, assuming, of course malice in the review-for-discount corps.

Not a German, and not a native English speaker, but I would propose the following (depersonalized, inaccurate, paraphrased, bastard...) translation: Mastery reveals itself by the limitations of its scope.

For me the same. Funny, as Friedl does barely discuss the ERE and awk (DFA) implementations at length. It is a shame, as the `more interesting` NFA implementations have performance issues under some circumstances. I had hoped the dilemma

This is exactly the point: Software production and maintenance is irrelevant for academic credit. So researchers do not have an incentive to make software. This journal explicitly says about itself that it is an ugly hack for academic softw

awk is a really productive constraint one can oblige to. If a problem looks like a text processing problem, use awk, and let the idioms set in. It is an awesome tool to have on one's belt. It is, in a sense, liberating to not have any

In the countries I have been living, paternal leave is a right that comes with having a job and getting a kid. It is not a perk that some noble businesses might choose to provide.

Highlighting the quotes reminds me of a gripe I have with quoting styles in print: When a quote consists of two paragraphs, the first paragraph does not get an ending quote: He said, "The first sentence. "The second sen

Interesting and well formulated words that are worth being said. But you are addressing (western?) humanity in general, and not the nerd group GP was wondering about. Do you see an emprical link between nerds and stubborness as GP does? If

I did not install flash in FF, and I do not miss a thing. Sometimes there is this warning that not all content could be displayed, but I would not have a clue what functionality is missing.
