I'm not the person you responded to, and I would never have replied with sarcasm as they did, but "Stoked to see another soul has seen through the smokescreen" comes across as more tribal than solidarity, IMO, if those are th

Things don't need to be explained from base principles or anything like that and as you mentioned they're not beholden to anyone, but explaining to a bit broader of an audience than one's particular niche is still generally a

I first heard of Gershon Kingsley when I looked up the samples on RJD2's first(?) album and discovered just how much the RJD2 song The Horror [1] (which I loved) was based on Kingsley's Hey Hey [2]. I had definitely heard Popcorn

Back when they were just a search engine, they added HUGE value. Search was really terrible before them, and when using google for the first time after using all the other search engines, it really felt like actual magic.

Care to comment a little more about what it is and why it relates to this post? The link you provided is super ad-talk filled and very low-content, turned me off immediately. And your comment sounds suspiciously like an ad, though I hope th

I'm pretty sure you could do a 2D one without all the checks you mentioned. All you need really is the ability to move things and change the z-index.

There are lots of games available for the M1. The Mac Gaming Wiki has a pretty big (but not exhaustive) list of M1 compatible games: https://www.applegamingwiki.com/wiki/M1_compatible_games_mas... It’s clearly not ever

I think at least part of why we consider these to be successes is because they've been around a while without being killed. So newer products aren't considered successes on the same level as those mentioned by OP because they have

I'd say the difference is similar to source code vs. compiled-binary-for-a-single-target. The webpage is the source code and can be rendered for various targets if it's responsive. The PDF is just how it looks on a single target,

The author isn't dismissing "window shopping". They're just dismissing the need to keep track of the "window shopping" in the history, since you're not changing anything in the history. If you have state1,

Similarly, the image with Input Mono caught my eye: https://i0.wp.com/blakewatson.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2022... The word "chain" looks more like "cha in" which just makes the font

I wonder about your (2) idea... If the goal is to reduce the effect of bots that vote exactly the same, then ok, sure. (Though if it became common, I'm sure vote bots wouldn't have a hard time being altered to add a little randomn

This is so much better in the video than what I thought it would be from just the pictures. Which of course makes sense since it's Akesson. He's one of the people behind the Teenage Engineering Pocket Operators, after all.

I'm not sure if what you're talking about has anything to do with the article. It sounds like you're just making a flippant comment based on the title of the article (please correct me if I'm wrong). From the article: &g

The key to skeuomorphism is that it's based on unnecessary ornamentation, like giving a button on a computer a 3D look, or having a display in an app have a fake glass sheen.

By that logic, _any_ app is skeuomorphic by default just by existing. IMO that's being too liberal with the definition.

I'll take a Discourse forum over a Discord any day (though I haven't tried Discord's new forum feature). Discourse is an evolution of a forum, while (until now maybe) Discord is an evolution of IRC. Huge difference.

I don't necessarily agree with the article (and I don't see it ever being possible to get the world to move back to plaintext email), but the article isn't saying nothing. There are legitimate reasons to want plaintext email.

I don't think you know too much about how the book retail industry works. If people are dropshipping from anywhere, they're dropshipping from Ingram, which is in the US. Some of the stuff they carry might be printed in Asia, but i
