In Rails, the application belongs in app/, not lib/ or a gem. If this does not meet your admittedly obsessive design concerns then I suggest not using Rails.

The other kind of federal debt is intragovernmental debt; that is, debt which the federal government owes to itself. This category includes the Social Security Trust Fund.

SSDs really are going to change the game. As a Ruby developer, I'm hoping to see a new language created that is inspired by Ruby but is optimized for speed. Java will remain insufficiently aesthetic, but a new language could be both fast an

I dunno. Unlike the Qwikster split, the iPad is pretty popular with customers.

I grew up on a cul-de-sac. I knew all of my neighbors and it was a great environment for a kid to grow up in. We had a nearby woods, too. We often walked and rode bikes.

It couldn't have taken you years. Firefox 4 was only released in March of this year. Firefox 5 came three months later in June. Firefox 6 was two months later in August, and Firefox 7 now comes a little over a month afterwards.

I used to have that problem until I excluded log files, images, and other extraneous files from my project. Find in project now works relatively quickly. I don't consider my app "really small", or the prior two I worked on using TextMate.

TextMate still has the best find-in-project functionality. Sublime Text 2 doesn't compare if you want to rename something throughout the app. As for vim, it's nice when you're in a console, but I don't think it's as pleasant to use. The del

In a sense, depositing money in a bank is a sort of loan to the bank. They then loan your money out to others, and give you a cut of the interest. It isn't really "held in an account," rather there is a register which says how much money yo

Headphones are an integral part of the open office layout, especially for developers. I recommend decent-quality sound-isolating earbuds which can give you a personal audio environment at any time without irritating your coworkers. Using he

Currently, our recommendation engine is the only publicly available product. We're building a platform similar to what Leaky portrays, but it's still in development. Displaying truly accurate and actionable rates is not a simple task.

There is actually another company that has this concept: CoverHound. I'm one of the co-founders. We started a few months before Leaky. We went through the AngelPad incubator during the Winter 2011 class. TechCrunch covered us in a little bl

I can't stand this. Asterisks in the geek world denote actions, not bold. Underlines are frequently used for computing purposes. How is Markdown in any way friendly to geeks?

I've been coding in Rails since pre-1.0, and while some decisions have annoyed me, I am ultimately happy with the direction Rails has gone. It keeps Rails at the forefront of web technology.

Goldman evidently thought it was overvalued, too. They sold all of their stock at the IPO price. So if their goal was to "scam" LinkedIn, they didn't do a very good job of it. http://finance.fortune.cnn.com/2011/05/19/goldman-leaves-lin...
