Is price gouging in this context illegal (genuine question, I know very little in this area, but I would not have thought so). It seems to me like they are effectively just selling at the price the market will bear, which is artificially in

The fact they rolled back hours of trades is astounding to me. I'm surprised it would be legal, to be honest.

Another theory: type 1 is fun now, type 2 is fun in hindsight, type 3 seems like it would be fun looking forward but turns out to be awful.

Is type 2 fun a good idea? I haven't been able to decide for myself. I'm never sure whether doing these sorts of things has actually been a good use of my time. It probably helps me grow or something, but God does it suck a lot of

I dunno. I agree this work is important, but I also find it boring and frustrating. Its like adding logging, plumbing configs, etc. Obviously it has to happen, but at least for me it's neither interesting nor exciting.

I think it's hard to buy it, but it's easy to "sell" it / lose it over financializing.

I don't like that OSI seems to somehow come away with this (at least as framed here) with control of the term. I agree just calling whatever nonsense open-source is problematic, but I don't agree it has to be one of their licenses

I am not sure this myth the author is claiming is anywhere near as pervasive as they seem to think? I kind of know what they mean, but I don't think it's something most or even all that many people I've met would agree with.

I've always felt quite safe in Airbnb's. I also kind of feel that if this was really a huge safety risk we'd have stories of disaster from the 20k Afghanistan refugees, which I'm sure would have been mentioned here if th

It's hard. You can love and be excellent at all the things a field of study entails, but if no one wants to pay you to do those things it isn't a career. I think encouraging people to study and enjoy these things as a hobby, and p

Something about the article was weird. I didn't grok that it was a book review until after I finished reading it, but I'm not sure exactly why that was.

Thinking more, I guess I'm comparing to more creative / niche competitors or different approaches, rather than just doing the same thing on azure / gcp.

Probably not literally, but in my experience the answer is more or less just "yes, aws is more expensive than competitors"

I'm at a big tech company. I literally think I'd leave if they stopped feeding me. It's such an amazingly valuable perk. It's worth substantially more to me than the raw cost of the food. Having to do my own food during

I think it's more just that they don't feel they have a choice. The whole peace in our time thing didn't work out super great last time. At some point you can't just cave indefinitely. I agree though that I can easily im

It seems a bit reductive to me. I'm also not sure oil and gas extraction is simple in quite the same way growing avocados might be. It has a thread of internal consistency but it's not super convincing to me? Just comes off as som

Come to think of it, I was relatively unbusy, knowledgeable about c++, in van nuys, and kind of a dick at around that time. Perhaps I, too, creates Bitcoin.

Meh, I think it's still a good step. At some point you've got to take action to make progress. If more countries ban it we might eventually see a decrease in total mining.
