The article failed to mention Shoutlife ( http://www.shoutlife.com ), probably the biggest Myspace-act-alike Christian social networking site.

Typo: Should say, "Build your store for free!" under the grey "Coming Soon" button. Also, your demo sites don't seem to be loading. Edit: They just took quite a while to come up.

What you want is something that capitalizes on a basic human need, whether that means validation of existence or sex or facilitation of work, etc. For me, it was dealing with frustration ( http://ventations.com/ ), although that site's not

The parting line confirms my suspicion that marketing and SEO types secretly worship/unconsciously patronize Googlers and their ilk. Frankly, I don't care whether or not I have what it takes to work at Google.

UPDATES: Bigger fonts (Caleb mentioned that earlier), Twitter updates ( http://twitter.com/ventations ), and you can now vent via SMS by texting "VENT your_message_here" to 41411. And we like our color scheme. :)

I and a friend (it was his idea) put together this site over the weekend, on a lark. It's admittedly purposeless, but we're hoping that people don't find it completely useless.

First off, congrats on a completely misleading title. I feel like your question overlooks something, namely that if your goal is to become successful, then until you do , you probably won't have the "buck" to pay your crazy smart hard-work

Nope. Actually we've never taken/sought VC, and we've been working on the thing for about a year.

Thank you for your thoughtful comments. They're definitely appreciated. > Bands must get sick of trying to get their gigs listed on all the different sites (myspace, purevolume, etc.), having a solution that could push that info to all

I wouldn't buy Motorola to begin with. I bought my cell phone from Amazon.com, and the RAZR got pretty torn up in the reviews I read. So I opted for a Nokia, and have never been less than pleased with it.

We do have one. As I noted elsewhere, I linked to the dashed version for clarity's sake, but it was probably a bad idea. The non-hyphenated one is in "production" use.

Some. Word of mouth has worked really well. We also get quite a few signups from people who see it in use and check it out.

Yeah, we own both addresses. I linked to the hyphenated address for clarity's sake. But you're right. We use the non-hyphenated version in all email correspondence and the like.

Couldn't the same argument ("just a VM and a set of APIs") be made for many programming languages, Web or otherwise? I'm not criticizing what you wrote, just trying to make sure I understand what you're saying.
