I was also curious about this. As the article mentions, Slack doesn't make it easy for your organization to allow open registration. People have developed hacks around this by running a server on Heroku [0], or using Typeform combined

The current beta supports a Markdown pseudo-syntax (# for headings, and * for bullet lists) but not an entire Markdown standard as far as I can tell.

I haven't yet tried Zulip's threading model, but I can certainly say I'm not pleased with Slack's. It can be very frustrating to try and trace a conversation backwards in a crowded Slack channel. I haven't used IRC

This is pretty neat stateless app, however the current implementation leads to performance issues on slower connections. Have you thought about some optimizations you could make to filtering/searching to minimize the initial load time,

I agree, this is one of my favorite tricks. I like to think of xargs as a `map` function over stdin lines. As the article mentions, especially useful when combined with the -P flag for paralellism. cat urlpaths.txt | xargs -I{} -P wge

While arithmetic syntactic sugar is useful since it's much clearer, I agree that I'd often prefer a function call to some unintuitive symbol syntax. Another example for me, in Python, is: print >> sys.stderr, 'foo
